Dar Zerhoune

Lovely quaint and comfortable stay in Moulay Idriss. Not overly easy to find, as their map didn’t bring alive the frantic life of the small market and food stalls, with thronging pedestrians, through which you need to try to drive!!! We were slightly non plussed by the instructions to use a donkey if we were coming with heavy baggage (cue small light rucksack!) The guardian of the parking area made someone else move, so we could park there overnight! The donkey “taxi rank” was the far side of the stalls, not where we parked, so we never got to try that option. However there is no way to access Dar Zerhoune without climbing a fair number of steps, but it is well worth finding, and staying. Superb views over the interesting small town. Evening meal on the terrace a reasonable standard, but the breakfast was exceptionally good. Very well priced.

I recently stayed here whilst visiting Moulay Idriss with friends. The location is lovely, the rooms are nicely decorated and the hosts were great. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. We were the only guests so I’m not sure what it is like when busy but this was a pretty, tranquil and relaxing stop on our drive around Morocco.

My wife and I stayed in the attractive-looking room that this lodging featured as its first photo on Tripadvisor. It was hands down the worst accommodation we have ever experienced, even after traveling across other developing regions such as Mexico and India where lodgings have unpredictable quality. 1. Stench: the lowest floors of the hotel have a moldy smell that diminishes as one moves upward. After my prior review on ***********, the owner said she sniffed around and noticed nothing. But during my stay at the hotel, my wife and I remarked about the smell to the staff, who confirmed there is a long-standing problem with drainage and dankness. They informed us that the problem had increased after tiles had been removed. 2. Padlock: the room does not have a door lock, only an external padlock like a storage shed. As one sees from the photo, the pad lock looks creepy (and it's not easy to operate). 3. Bathroom: in this review I can offer a photo only of the bath's window frame, but the stains and splashes convey the feel of the bath and in particular of the shower stall, which shows unidentifiable substances even after being cleaned. 4. Peeling room paint, as in photos. 5. The close-up photo of the salt shaker conveys the lack of consistent standards in the upkeep of the hotel. These are just a few of the pieces of a larger situation.
