The bungalow is a listed building , so though it may look a little worse for wear, it is being meticulously preserved for the future. Our hosts Ruban and Lishanthan could not have made more of a fuss of us, and were so kind and friendly. It had the feeling of a homestay in many ways, as there are just 3 bedrooms . Gunarathnam the chef cooked us up homemade Sri Lankan food for dinner and then explained how it was all made. We learned so much talking to the staff here, who felt more like hosts in a friend's home . It's quirky and the furniture inside is a little dated but the walks up around the bungalow in the tea plantation are amazing and if you fancy a proper hike, Ruban will take you in some of the pekoe trail. Don't expect 4 star luxury, instead you'll get homely comforts, the warmest of welcomes and chat and homemade food cooked for you . We wouldn't have missed it for the world. Thank you to all the staff there. Karen and michele

In the midst of a tea plantation, my friend and I discovered this secret bangalow when searching for a place to stay close to Noorwood. The crew claimed that although being almost 130 years old, it still had a colonial feel. It's more than simply a bangalow; it's a beautiful setting with a serene ambiance. The meal was fantastic, with the Sri Lankan breakfast being the finest. There, we discovered a pleasant team with a wealth of customer service experience, who even went out of their way to organise transportation for us. We are very grateful to Ruban for making our stay so lovely.

Absolutely charming retreat nestled in the serene countryside. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the rustic elegance of this bungalow. The lush surroundings, tranquil ambiance, and impeccable hospitality made for a truly unforgettable stay. The attention to detail in every aspect of the property, from the cozy decor to the delectable cuisine, exceeded our expectations. A perfect blend of luxury and nature, we can't wait to return to this hidden gem!

The Royal Majesty bungalow dates from 1883 and is one of the oldest colonial bungalows in private ownership. It occupies a fabulous hillside location in the middle of the tea plantation. The staff make supreme efforts to look after your needs - just ask. The building has what we in the UK would call “listed” status due to its age so relish the originality and be prepared to overlook minor issues! I can thoroughly recommend the Tea Tour. Starting in the fields surrounding the planter’s bungalow you will see the supervisor’s house and the plucker’s village. Tour guide Rimas is a young local guide with a good understanding of the colonial history of the island together with the economics of the tea business. Your tour will include the Norwood factory with an explanation of the different types of tea, the economics and the different end customers and their preferences. At the end of the tour you will sample tea made with the different grades of leaves. Very interesting tour takes about 3 hours in total. If you’re a hiker sections 7 and 8 of the Pekoe trail come through here nearby.

Quaint old bungalow with a rich history. What it is slightly lacking in amenities (water pressure!) It more than makes up with the friendly staff who are keen to delight you. Chef's cooking is just amazing. Proximity to section 7 of Pekoe Trail is very convenient. Gartmore falls, Castlereagh, Aberdeen and Laxapana are easily accessible.

our stay at Royal Bungalow was fantastic. The accommodation is original colonial which sets the mood and ambience. The place is lovely and peaceful for a relaxing stay and surrounded by beautiful tea plantations. The service is above and beyond and nothing is too much for them. The staff are attentive and there for our every need. Finally the chef serves fantastic food. Local Sri Lanka cuisine. I highly recommend this hidden gem :-)
