What could possibly be better than spending a week in August on a private island in a hand built cabin? Perfect weather, a clear lake, family built and owned since the 1950's this is truly a place like no other that I've ever experienced. Everything is perfectly old school, you run a tab at the pantry on little notepads, there are kids activities, water toys, a rare amphibious car and a staff who take care of your every need. Just leaving the dock on the shuttle boat feels like you're leaving the whole world and stepping back in time to when things were a lot more simple. It's no wonder that families come back here year after year for generations, I've simply never been anywhere like it and look forward to going back and taking my sons.

It’s really impossible to overstate how much joy Ludlow’s has brought to our family. Some years ago we tried Ludlow’s for a family summer vacation in a natural environment and were pleasantly surprised. Fast forward to the arrival of our grandchildren who we then got to introduce to the beauty of the pine forests of the upper Midwest via Ludlow’s. We love the fact that Ludlow’s has organized activities for kids or one can just luxuriate in the beautiful Minnesota woods. I should add that I love the rusticity of Lake Vermilion area, but all the cabins at Ludlow’s have Weber grills, dish washers, wine glasses and grocery delivery to the island—which is important for our group of foodies. I hope it goes without saying that I would unreservedly recommend Ludlow’s and Lake Vermilion which has been such a beautiful experience in our lives as well as that of our children and grandchildren.
