Dorset Arms Hotel

We stayed at the Dorset Arms Hotel as we were attending our sons graduation ceremony, Stan went out if his way to ensure our rooms were ready ahead of time which was so incredibly kind . Our room was perfect, clean and comfortable, we had water , coffee , hot chocolate tea biscuits and milk provided along with toiletries and toothbrushes/ paste . Nothing was too much trouble , Stan was friendly and welcoming and our breakfast was spot on . Lastly a special mention to the little celebrity who is Georgia , she made our day . I couldn't recommend The Dorset Arms strongly enough , it is very much a hidden gem .

I stayed at the Dorset Arms with a friend last week as we were walking the Hadrian's Wall path over the following week. I have previously stayed here and it stuck in my mind as it was so convenient and friendly. The hotel had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean and nice and quiet for a good night's sleep. The breakfast in the morning was also top notch with everything you could want. There was even honey from the hotel garden which was lovely. The owner Stan is such a nice guy and my friend and I really enjoyed speaking with him. My friend parked his car at the hotel and it was 100% safe and secure. Stan and his staff deserve a 10/10 score for running a great hotel and for being so welcoming. Hopefully I will be back sometime. I highly recommend this hotel. Sam

Stayed with a group of friends for the rugby league magic weekend in Newcastle. Loved everything about the place! The quirky decor in the dining room and the conservatory is unique, the breakfast was eggselent 😜, the rooms were spacious and comfortable and Stan (the man) the proprietor was faultless 👍 Would definitely recommend the Dorset Arms to anyone wanting to stay in the area 👏👏

Stayed for a night while we were up for the Kylie concert. Loved our stay. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like family by Stan (the owner) and his mum. Helped us with advice on where to eat and places to visit. Room was great. Spacious and comfortable. The cooked breakfast the next morning was excellent and a nice selection for the continental breakfast all served with a friendly smile. Will definitely stay again.

We (family of 5) were visiting the area as my husband had a strongman competition so we decided to stay over the night before. Initially the pub looks OK until you drive into the car park where there is a lot of broken garden furniture/left out bbq. It's a shame as it could be lovely. The barman who showed us to the room was pleasant enough. The family room (two joining rooms which works great) is a decent size and the bedding is clean. It's just unfortunate that there are signs of damp on some of the walls and headboard. The en-suite is quite mildewy and grubby but generally ok. I appreciate the hotel is located above a pub but it's like being above Phoenix Nights when "Ray Von" was playing with the 80s classics pumping out!! The WiFi is pretty non-existent, 1 loo roll between 5 of us and the TV in the twin room didn't work properly. The double bed was on the small side and the mattress had no support. Plus the shower head was broken and the dressing table nearly fell on my daughter because it's also broken. The continental breakfast was nice and the gent serving was lovely. I can appreciate what they are trying to achieve and it could be lovely but either the family room isn't used that often or the cleaners are letting them down!

Stan the owner was personable and friendly and told us stories about the hotel and the many interesting objects that can be found throughout the building. Our room was spacious and the TV worked well. However the mattress protector and thick quilt made our bed too warm and even though we had the window open it was difficult to regulate the heat. In addition the flow of the shower was weak and not very hot either. There was lots of choice for breakfast and Stan made us a very good cooked breakfast. Unfortunately, In contrast to our bed the breakfast room was freezing (the heaters were on!) so we had to eat our cooked breakfast quickly to stop it going cold. The owner was flexible with the departure time which we appreciated. The hotel was a strange mix of hotel/B&B and its previous life as a pub, but for Newcastle it is good value and the free parking was a bonus. Disliked ·
