We had a wonderful 5* stay here at Villa Kyveli. We got a bit stuck arriving at the villa as the road was under construction but the owner George kindly came to meet us and show us the way. The villa is wonderful and perfect for our party of 5 (2 adults and 3 teenagers). Everyone loved the outdoor space and fabulous swimming pool. There is a covered outdoor area and lots of shade from Olive trees. Staying longer than a week we were treated to 2 x complimentary massages which was the best way to start our holiday. I can highly recommend Maria the massage therapist. The village of Prines is an easy 20 min walk and we particularly enjoyed eating at Giannikos Taverna and can recommend the delicious moussaka. We were treated like old friends after just 2 visits. We bumped into the waiter in Rethymno town and he recognised us and was so friendly. Rethymno is approx 15 mins drive. We had a wonderful meal at Achinos and really loved the very cool Ali Vafi's garden for amazing cocktails and strong Greek gin & tonics. George the owner of the Villa was always quick to answer our questions and had many fabulous recommendations. We visited Lake Kournas which is a fab day out. Hire a pedal boat and remember to take goggles. We hired a boat for half a day at Marathi beech near Chania from Notosmare boat hire and everyone loved this. Damnoni beach in the south is approx 50 mins drive and was quiet and beautiful. 2 x Sunbeds & umbrella is 6 Euros for the day and there are lovely tavernas for lunch. There is a shared outdoor kitchen at the estate and even though we had our own private BBQ we used this shared BBQ and pizza oven. Look at Jamie Oliver's pizza oven instructions on YouTube first if you've never tried and get the oven very hot at least an hour before and use loads of flour to prevent sticking. It's a full evening of pizza making but so much fun. Finally please say hello to the 2 dogs at the bottom of the drive. We named them Darren and Dutchess and they are so friendly and they adore to be stroked and scratched everytime you arrive and leave, we wanted to bring them home.
