The hotel facilities are complete, the room has a great view, you can see the starry sky and sunrise, and overlook the entire crater. The hotel is old, and the shower is a bit slippery if you don't wear slippers. After sleeping for a night, there are two or three itchy bumps on my body. I'm not sure if there are bugs on the bed or I was bitten by some bugs outside. The food tastes good, but if you choose to pack a lunch box, don't have too high expectations.

Stunning views, silence. Feeling of unity with nature. Hotel with all the amenities of civilization (hot water, heating, etc.). All hotels of the Serena chain are very good. We liked it.

This lodge is one of the very few places you can stay on the Crater rim with views of the Crater and easy access. I had heard from many others that did not book far enough in advance and had to stay 1-2 hours away. Book in advance! The hotel is unique with rooms built into the stone and all the stone walk ways. It felt like I was in a castle. Every room has a Crater view. It always smells of camp fire and I love that scent. They place heated bags in your beds at night which I loved, but the room is enclosed so it is not too cold. It does get chilly at night outdoors though. Breakfast and dinner was buffet style with a wide range of options. I wish drinks were included - They were a separate change. Great stay here!

What a place for a visit to Ngorongoro. A great lodge, great food, great people (as we have experienced at all our stays), but what makes this lodge special is the location. You have an unbelievable view over Ngorongoro Crater and using your binoculars you can even make out single animals. After searching for rhinos in the crater (successfully) I even spotted a third one from our balcony (the wildlife guide at the lodge confirmed it was really a rhino :-). Also it is just a 15 minutes drive to the road leading to the bottom, so we were able to start into the crater at 6.15, being the fourth party that day. And if you have the time, join the Wilderness Walk in the afternoon, thanks to Mike that was a great experience.

A huge thank you to the manager and staff for looking after 16 Australian photographers who stayed in early June. The view from our rooms was nothing short of spectacular. The restaurant staff rearranged tables to fit 16 to sit together..The food was brilliant..after a huge day down the crater having an traditional music show was a delight. We hope to stay the 2 nights next time.

Serena Safari Lodge was a beautiful setting with amazing views of the crater. Sunrise was stunning from our balcony. We were in room 6 on a lower level and it would be nicer to be higher up for the view. The property buildings are beautiful with their artwork and stone construction. The dining area and bar area were decorated beautifully. It was very nice sitting in the bar enjoying the view. In our room the bed was comfortable. There were only 2 plugs in our room, one international plug, the other Type G. Luckily I brought an adapter, this was the only place we needed it so we could both charge phone/ batteries. The wifi did not reach to our room or our friends room #8, although we were told it would. Meals were good with good variety. The lodge has 75 rooms and so is much busier than any other accomodations on safari. We preferred the smaller places. The staff were busy so they could not offer the warm personalized interactions as we had previously. On arrival we were greeted by a band playing. We saw Maasai dancing that was interesting. There were Maasai selling an interesting variety of items.

This place is stunningly beautiful, among the most beautiful locations of any hotel I have ever seen. Ngorongo is a magical place, a crater with its own little world of animals. The hotel sits on the edge of the crater and all rooms have a view down into the crater. At night you have starts above and its pitch dark in the crater, you can see the moon reflecting in the little lake below, see the sunrise reflect down in the crater in the morning. The hotel uses local materials, blends into the nature masterfully. Serena hotels offer great value. The other hotels on the crater edge are equally beautiful but more expensive, so if you are looking for a great value for money this is you best guess.

The Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge was a perfect location to explore the Ngorongoro Crater early the next morning while on safari with Access 2 Tanzania. It's a fancier hotel than I'm used to. Incrediible buffet dinner. Looked like a nice bar but I was too tired to enjoy it. We'd probably stay more than 1 day next time, that way we could explore the Crater early in the morning and come back and enjoy the hotel as well.
