The Glen Hotel Newtonmore

4 stars for the room, the general feel of the place and the majority of the staff. However an average evening meal and the manner and booming voice of the waitress/manager mean I’d advise giving the restaurant a miss. Very uncomfortable watching her speak to the next table in the most condescending and unfriendly manner. She’s a common theme, given some of the other reviews and stood out, because the other staff were all lovely.

We stayed at another establishment in newtonmore that didn't have a restaurant so myself and my wife drove past having seen the dinner sign decided to stop. A little old fashioned with old dirty restaurant carpets however we stayed. Greeted by an old fashioned " please wait here to be seated sign" to the left as we walked in when actually we were ushered to the bar to the right (very confusing ) we were greeted by an exceptionally loud stiff waitress who's bellowing voice commanded us to a table. Storming over she took our order. Wife had what was supposed to be a pie but more like a bowl of meat with a pre baked stuck on pastry lid. I had the curry which was very tasty. However the thing that struck us the most was how rude and abrupt the head waitress was with the staff. The couple on the next table observe this too almost to the point we felt sorry for the waiter and waitress. Therefore making the customers feel very uncomfortable. We presented the waitress with a tip she told us the tips were put in a box for all staff yet they hadn't received any tips from June. Food ok. Unhappy, stressed staff.

Brilliant small hotel welcome perfect , food perfect, owners perfect, cleanliness perfect, room perfect who could ask for more 5 * not enough. I had. Great 3 day stay so helpful could not do enough for me. Service absolutely top class. Area very clean and welcoming Can’t wait to return 5*+

Good communication We had booked into the Glen to break our journey from Harris to Edinburgh and unfortunately delayed by both ferry and 40 mile diversion. The level of communication from the hotel was excellent and they were very accommodating in regard to our much later arrival. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast excellent
