Staff very pleasant. Food ok but the room was a shoe box. Very hot and no way of opening the window due to it been to high to reach. Room had damp patch on the ceiling . Woken up at 1am with drunk people going to there rooms. If you are offered room 12 say no.

I noticed this hotel was up for sale, which sadly seems to be the case for many establishments in Newton Stewart with several other hotels are boarded up. Anyhow, the first challenge was parking as there's less than 10 places beside the hotel which also has a pub; there's some on street parking nearby. The receptionist was very pleasant and showed me to the 'junior suite'; this is one of the 2 bedroom self-catering holiday lets to the rear of the main building. That said, I was always ate in the Knights Restaurant. The suite was quite new, very clean but bedrooms and bathroom were pretty small. In fact, the main bedroom only had space for one bedside table and since there were no sockets on that wall, the bedside light was on the floor at the end of the bed. There was no duplicate switch to turn off the overhead light once in bed. Is that 'Deluxe'? I was fortunate that people staying above went to bed early as there were very audible squeaks and creaks from the floor as they walked about. Bathroom had an electric shower which was OK. The sitting room/kitchenette was pleasantly decored with comfortable sofa, the large firdge would be handy if your were self-catering and there was a microwave and electric hob. If you were to self -cater, there's a Sainsbury's, Aldi and CoOp all within walking distance to buy food. Breakfast choices had to be selected in advance, the breakfast itself was well done and pleasant. It does seem a little odd to sell a 2 bedroom self-catering holiday let as a "Deluxe Junior Suite", however in my case it worked out OK.

Came for 4 nights, for an ancestry trip the hotel was nice it’s location it’s just at the entrance of a village so there’s a bit of walk to the shops (Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Co-op) the food at the hotel was very nice especially at breakfast and dinner, the room we had was room eight there was a double bed and a single bed in its own area off the entrance, the room did get quite hot which was easily solved by requesting two fans one for the single bed area and one for the double bed which was no problem when asking. Would happily come again the staff are very nice and nothing is a problem. There is a car park for guests which is free to use! Shout out to Charlie, Jade and Doreen and the rest of the staff!

Enjoyed my stay at the Crown Hotel. All staff I encountered were very friendly and professional. The food was delicious and piping hot. I had a three course dinner and breakfast the following morning. It had a beer garden but was empty while I was there but a good spot for sitting in the sun.

Our visit coincided with Ralph’s 89th birthday – for which he had invited 30 of his closest mates: That added ambience to an otherwise dull place.

We attended on Saturday night as a party of 29 for a family meal, before heading off to a party. We were provided with menus beforehand and pre-ordered prior to the night. The service and food were both excellent, and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who was there. The main courses ordered by our party ranged from fillet steak to a Chinese chicken dish, and all were beautifully presented and tasted great, the only problem was some couldn’t finish it as the portions are very generous. Thank you so much Team Crown Hotel for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

My wife and I went in here for a meal tonight ( worst decision I made ) Ordered our dinners waited nearly 40 minutes on our starters and not very warm at all Again we waited nearer to 40 minutes on our main course and not once did anyone come over to ask us if everything was okay or not Meal was okay to be fair but JUST okay But service is absolutely terrible Definitely won’t be returning Totally shocking establishment and Gents toilets are awful

My friend and I used the Crown Hotel for three nights for a recent hiking trip. We had a first rate experience.Staff were very friendly and attentive. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. Food served at breakfast and in the evening was nutritious, plentiful and well presented. Serving staff, again, were excellent and obviously knew their jobs and carried them out well.Service definitely with a smile! An enjoyable stay, highly recommend this hotel and will be back again.
