The views from our room and from the restaurant area are stunning. Our bed was comfy and all amenities were provided for. The breakfast was tasty and served hot. The staff were friendly. The only problem we had was the Aln room stayed hot and there was a fan that ran all night long. We did report it and we were told other rooms had also said they were hot.

The reception was just first class at The Duke of York and the room was excellent for our 1 night stop over. We were able to share a leisurely meal with a long standing friend which was most enjoyable. The staff were, without exception, welcoming and efficient. Certainly would choose to stay there again if in the area.

We stayed at the Duke of Wellington for 6 nights as we were visiting family in Northumberland. We would happily have stayed longer, but sadly, we had to return to the real world! Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The room was good size and thoughtfully furnished, including the very comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious spotless. For breakfast, we had the full English or variations on it, which is a great treat reserved for trips away! Our family joined us for dinner in the restaurant one evening, where we took advantage of the steak night offer, and we all enjoyed it very much. I had one slight niggle while we there that I did mention at the time. I have arthritis in my hands, which means they are not as strong as I'd like, but I'm by no means helpless. The doors all had knobs rather than handles. I found it extremely difficult to open the door to our room and to our bathroom. Hopefully, this will be rectified. I would certainly stay here again.

We booked the cottage alongside the hotel and it was just fab! It was so well equipped with absolutely everything we needed. We ate dinner in the hotel both nights, the menu choices were good but not cheap however we did think it was worth it. All together our stay was first class.

We’re just back and have packed all that’s best at the Duke of Wellington into a twenty-four hour stay. As part of a thirty-odd sit-down group for a Christmas Lunch, we can report that there was enough variety to suit all tastes, delicious options, generous portions and plenty of fresh beautifully prepared veg, topped off with balanced house wines and a really well kept selection of local beers. The tables were immaculately set out, prompt table service from the team was excellent with a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful Tyne Valley views. Definitely recommended for an event or party. As a pre-Christmas treat we were booked in for B&B in the superb ‘Till’ room - again set out and furnished to a high standard with a huge comfy bed, perfect linen and fluffy towels underfloor heating and all the high quality ‘extras’ that make an overnight stay perfect. Later we joined a festive crowd for the annual Christmas Quiz, part of the regular scene at Newton under local legendary Quizmaster Gary who was playing to a crowd all too aware that the serious business of quizzing plays second fiddle to his appalling puns, jokey asides and the danger that the wheel could and does fall off at any moment. Again, a quick mention for the cellar management with really well kept beers and bar staff who keep the show on the road despite Gary’s best efforts. An altogether more peaceful atmosphere once back upstairs to bed, great to settle into a deep bath before hitting the pillows for a great night’s sleep. Breakfast back downstairs did not disappoint - top quality ingredients combined with skill and served with a smile and a friendly chat before we were on our way - relaxed, refreshed and happy. Thanks to the team, we’ll be back soon.

I took my good friend and Parents to celebrate their 71st Wedding Anniversary for Sunday lunch, 10 September 2023. What a lovely venue-you can even sit outside if the weather is nice enough! The food was delicious- we 3 had halibut and my friend an enormous plate-full of roast pork, roast potatoes, veg, and huge yorkshire pudding with lashings of gravy, which was also delicious but too big to finish. We were served by the charming Nick and he kindly brought my Folks a complimentary couple of desserts so thanks for that. Mark at the bar was also helpful and took some nice photos. I would certianly recommend Sunday lunch at the Duke of Wellington Inn, and it's in handy location, just off the A69.

How disappointing our lunch was! The scampi was £17 ! We had eaten it before and it was lovely. However; this time it looked as if it was for a child's lunch. Overcooked and dry with dry frozen chips tossed onto the plate, which were not very warm. A small bit of salad seemingly NOT fresh with tomatoes soft and chewy. DREADFUL! Just all plonked on a plate like a cheap cafe, no flair. I ate most of the scampi which was too dark to be golden and tasty then left for the loo. When I came back it was cleared away. £17 for a few bits of overcooked scampi, three hard dry frozen chips and a little limp salad. That was all I could eat. My husband ordered a prawn cocktail which was a tiny amount of lettuce with small prawns smothered in sauce. No flair here either. The steak pie had a flat crust, the meat ..not much with three bits of gristle. We did not complained as it was for a friend's birthday but all the way home wished we had. What a waste of money.
