I was very disappointed with my meal here firstly the food took forever to come we waited almost an hour for food! When it came the chips were overcooked and my chorizo was so thick that it wasn't properly cooked and I couldnt even cut through it

We visited Newport for an overnight stay and a music gig. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We arrived early so that we could enjoy a pub lunch before checking in. The food was excellent. The double room was tiny, however, we looked past this as it is a period building and, furthermore, the price point was amazing value for money. The room was clean and well equipped and we had an amazing nights sleep. Breakfast was great, we had the Full English and enjoyed it very much thank you. The room was too small for a wardrobe but there were plenty of hooks and hangers provided and shelved belonging boxes . The shower was very tiny, it was okay for my wife but a bit of a struggle for me, a big chap. We embraced the funny side of this as it was hysterical trying to lather up when I couldn't move my arms. The water was hot and it did the job. All said and done, we were happy with the overall experience and had a fabulous stay. My only suggestion would be the addition of cup and saucer sized shelves next to the bed. Thank you to all of the staff, we really enjoyed our stay! We will definitely visit the Wheatsheaf Hotel again.

Walking into the Wheatsheaf on a cold January afternoon we were met by a blazing log fire, a happy buzz in the bar, and a warm welcome from staff. Bags whisked up to our room, then a drink at the bar by the warm fire. All the staff were friendly, helpful and kind and any special requests were immediately dealt with. There's a good range of dishes to choose ranging from pizzas to pub classics to a changing specials board. 10% off mains if you are a hotel guest. It's a cosy and relaxing place to sit for the evening, and the log fire is regularly replenished, and burns from morning till closing time. Breakfast included with a varied menu from full English, half-size full English and various permutations including bacon sandwiches. Unlimited tea and coffee. All good value and a real home from home feel. If you prefer not to stay in impersonal chain hotels, this is the place to be.

Great old pub in the heart of town. Great atmosphere and very traditional. Accommodation upstairs is cosy and clean. Rooms are heated well. The breakfasts are delicious! Very lovely family run pub with very friendly and accommodating staff. Our stay was fun. The pub was buzzing with people.

Great location, great, massive breakfast (included in the price), live music, friendly staff & patrons, easy walk from the bus station, all at a very affordable price..Outside tables in the front are ideal for people watching and having a smoke. Downtown location..Showers are very small !

Wanted to try it since it has changed management. Food ok, service slow considering it wasn't busy. The outside needs a good tidy up, used to be more welcoming from the outside now it looks run down with rubbish, too many sign boards and a god awful plastic flower arrangement around the door. Takes two minutes to sweep out the front around the door.

Booked this room solely due to the close proximity of a function we were attending. Arrived to find a cosy, inviting and buzzing bar. We decided to plot up for a drink before going up to the room. We were so comfortable we ordered a pizza and salad, was tasty although could’ve done with a bit more meat ha ha! Tian, the barman, manager and general everything was delightful. The room was a triple although we were only two. Room was light and airy, spotlessly clean with a comfy double, crisp, clean bedding and an extra blanket. Cosy lamps, tea/coffee making facilities. Shower was a bit of a squeeze but worked perfectly well. Room was extremely quiet too. Breakfast was superb and included. Served by a lovely young lady, Shannon, in a beautifully decorated and airy room. Unlimited tea, coffee and juices. There were a number of walk ins too, not just hotel guests and at under £10 for a full English including beverage, an absolute bargain. I would return here in a heartbeat and would advise anyone wanting a central base a 2 minute walk from the bus station to definitely stay here. We will return! Thank you
