We had an uncomfortable stay here. We came in from an international flight on Christmas Eve to a note on the door saying we should have received a text with checkin info - no text and we couldn’t call on our phone. Talk about a panic moment. Luckily the door had been left unlocked and we went inside to ask at the restaurant, where we found the owner who was nice and helpful. Disappointed with the room. It was large but there were no chairs to sit in, it was poorly lit, it was stuffy and we couldn’t open the windows or get the A/C working, and the shower head was so low that my 6 ft husband and son had to sit in the tub to take a shower. Pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. Not fun when you’re already jet lagged. Would recommend 2 fans instead of 1, soap for the bathroom sink, a full length mirror, some chairs to sit in to watch tv or relax without having to lay in bed, and having someone to talk to for things we needed, like housekeeping, towels, asking about the A/C unit, etc. There was a phone number to call but it said it was for emergencies. We never saw anyone after the first night of being there. I get it was the holidays, but if you can’t attend to your guests during the holidays, you shouldn’t have any guests. No breakfast was provided on Christmas or Boxing Day, and nothing was open, so we just didn’t eat breakfast for those two days. But we still paid for it. How about leaving some cereal or bread or something? We were there visiting elderly family who were unable to provide food for us, so we were really relying on breakfast being provided by the hotel. There were drunks yelling and screaming outside. The beautiful church bells were pealing on Christmas Eve but were being mocked by these drunkards. Not a very nice family atmosphere. But not the hotel’s fault there. And we loved the beautiful church and the midnight service. We give it 2 stars for at least seeing the owner the first night and thank goodness their restaurant was open that night or we wouldn’t have been able to eat until 1:00 the next day. It was pretty good, too. I guess we were expecting more of a hotel than a bedsit. It should be clearer on their website that it is unattended for the most part. Not what we were looking for or expecting, and it was kind of depressing for Christmas. FYI we are not strangers to the IOW and we know it is quiet in the winter; but we didn’t expect to be completely ignored at our hotel.
