We had a lovely stay at the Four Columns Inn. This was our second time staying here, and our first under recent, new ownership. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival and were taken to our suite. We stayed in the “Sting Suite” which is located on the 3rd floor of the front building with columns. The room is nicely decorated, with cathedral ceiling and two sided gas fireplace. The bathroom is spacious with double sinks, hot tub and shower. We appreciated having the mini fridge in the room. The bed was comfortable, a bit softer than we are used to. This room price is very expensive, so to give it more of an upscale feel I would suggest offering bathrobes, plusher towels and finer quality bed linens. For skiing and muddy weather, I would suggest adding a waterproof mat or place to put boots and damp ski gear, as we didn’t want to ruin the nice wooden floors. The inn offers a continental breakfast that includes coffee, tea, juice, limited fruit and pastry. We were disappointed with the selection of pastries and fruit, and felt there could be more variety and home baked options. There are very few places nearby for hot breakfast so being able to get a hot breakfast at the hotel would be my suggestion for a future offerings. We ate dinner at the hotel’s restaurant 1832 Tavern. The restaurant serves tavern food. The food was ok, very basic. Our server was very inexperienced, which led to some disappoint with our meal and dining experience. The manager spoke to us and gave us complementary desert to make up for it. There are very few dining options in Newfane so I hope the restaurant can provide more compelling food options and improve service. Overall our stay was very pleasant and comfortable. The inn is lovely and the staff is kind and helpful. For the new management, I hope these suggestions are helpful.

We've loved the Four Columns over many years - and our latest visit made us very happy to see it hasn't lost its appeal after some recent changes in ownership. We were lucky to stay in our favorite suite (now named after Tom Cruise), featuring a double-sided fireplace between the very comfortable bedroom and a beautiful bathroom with a wonderful soaking tub. It was nice to be able to enjoy dinner at the 1832 Tavern and head back up to our suite one night, and to venture into nearby Brattleboro for a delicious dinner at Peter Havens another night. The town square is picture-postcard perfect, as is the surrounding area. We enjoyed snowshoeing in nearby Grafton one day - an easy way to get into the countryside. Perhaps best of all is the wonderful staff - with Bridget, the manager, at the top of the list. She could not have been friendlier or more helpful - and the same was true of every other person there.

Went to dinner for my birthday. We sat in the tavern. At least 5 minutes passed before a server acknowledges us. She brought water , but no glasses were on the table. There was then a brief discussion with the bartender as to which glasses to use. I then had to point out that we had no menus. After reviewing the menu for a few minutes the server returned to ask if we wanted to start with an appetizer. I asked what the soup of the day was and we were told. My husband ordered the lobster bisque. I notified the server that I am gluten intolerant and inquired about substitutions for the pasta that accompanies my desired entree. My husband then felt pressured to order his entree, despite not having made his selection. We waited 20* minutes and all the food came out at once. It is my understanding that appetizers should come BEFORE a meal. We were finished with our meals, but the server was nowhere to be found. The bartender ended up clearing our plates and giving up our bill. Still no server around. The chicken I ordered was tough, my husband’s fish was poorly cooked. The quality of the food does NOT match the prices they charge.

The Four Columns Inn owes me $752 that it promised to pay but hasn't. I cancelled the reservation for two rooms because their on site restaurant (where we had made a reservation) had closed and the reason for staying at the inn was to have a nice celebration dinner at the restaurant on 10/5/23 after a 4 day leaf-peek hike in Vermont. A month before I googled and saw that the restaurant had closed I was contacted fairly quickly by the Inn and told that the place is under new management and that we would receive the refund, but that the previous owner had not transferred the deposit to the new owner and I should be patient. Now they don't return my calls.

The hotel is clearly past its glory days. There is no-one on-site and it felt like a ghost town. We were sent for breakfast 15 miles away. The restaurant and bar are closed. The rooms should properly cost ~$120-140/night.

My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and decided to return to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The place has been remodeled and changed owners several times, but its charm remains. We stayed in the Sugar Maple room, which is the largest room and faces the front, with a spectacular view of the town green. The staff were great and appreciated our stories of the "old days." They serve a nice continental breakfast but don't currently have their own restaurant. That's unfortunate because in the past their restaurant was world class, but there are some good restaurants in nearby Brattleboro. Highly recommended for a getaway to a classic VT town, especially in leaf peeping season.

Stayed here for a two-night last-minute winter getaway to escape the snowless winter doldrums of New Jersey. Chose this place for its highly regarded on-site dining, location and amenities. WHAT WAS GOOD: You couldn’t invent a more exemplary setting for a classic Vermont inn. With its neighboring congregational church, county courthouse and village green, and set among the rolling rural countryside, the property is something right out of a chamber of commerce brochure….My room, #5 – Weeping Willow, was reasonably priced considering its amenities, which included a dual-sided gas fireplace, large jetted tub, an exceptionally comfortable bed (so tall there was actually a small stepstool at its side!), an excellent TV with good channel selections, several windows across two rooms (the bathroom was a full room unto itself), and a good amount of floor space….Continental breakfasts were more than satisfying and featured top quality stuff….Dinners were outstanding….Every member of the staff I encountered was friendly and accommodating: Nicki and Francesca at the front desk, Dorian at breakfast service and Bob in the tavern – all top notch. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: I had to bring a couple cleanliness issues with the room to the staff’s attention….The switch to the fireplace didn’t work at first, requiring a call to the desk and a change of batteries….With just an on/off control, there’s no way to regulate the output from the fireplace, meaning that the room can get uncomfortably hot, even in bitter cold weather as I experienced. It would be nice to have a volume control. THINGS TO KNOW: I couldn’t get cell service throughout the entire time of my stay (Verizon network). I needed to rely on the land line in the room for communication with family. (Haven’t used one of those in a while.) Thankfully, WiFi was fast and reliable….Newfane is a very rural community with a quiet town center. Scenic beauty is in abundance but there isn’t much to walk to from the inn….Breakfast is served from 8:00 – 10:00. Keurig coffee was available in an area just steps from my room. BOTTOM LINE: I liked just about everything about this place.

Wonderful stay at the Inn! Francesca was so accommodating and made our stay very welcoming! The room and grounds were incredibly clean. We stayed in the Tarragon room and the shower was phenomenal, in addition to the double sided fireplace that connected the bedroom/bathroom. We ate at Andrea’s Table at the Inn and chef Andrea came out and greets every table dining. Our meal was cooked to perfection and everything was so fresh. Bob the bartender on the tavern was a pleasure to converse with even giving us some history of the property and has been there for 40 years! You will not be disappointed in your stay!

We enjoyed everything about this quintessential Vermont inn, from the lush property with ponds and walking gardens to the comfort of our room and the morning breakfast with local yogurts and fresh fruit. The restaurant recently closed as the inn transitions to a new chef and management team. The couple that is over-seeing the change certainly has the energy and the vision to make this a most memorable stay. There's an outdoor patio; a fire pit and a warm, welcoming entrance room for coffee and conversation. Internet was just fine for my computer work. Local area had some nice restaurants. This is a little gem of an inn and it all starts with the couple that is managing the property. I highly recommend The Four Columns Inn.
