Cycled up from Carlisle on a bright but cool September day. Arrived to find a warm, comfortable and welcoming hotel at The Grapes. Easy to store our 2 bikes as plenty of room in the back of the hotel. Nice, clean twin room with a good shower - important after a days cycling. We ate in the bar, very good food and a good ambience. A mix of locals and a group of cyclists from Tyneside. A great stay in Newcastleton.

Top marks to Steve and his team for feeding a bunch of greedy (sorry, hungry) cyclists this weekend. Our party of 15 ate here for two consecutive nights and thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the banter. The Cullen Skink and vegan curry were particular highlights, as were the onion rings made from the prize-winning onion!

Spur of the moment decision, we decided to go to ‘pastures new’ for a night. Great decision, very welcoming, clean and newly refurbished. Bar meal was ‘pub grub’ and very good. Hubby loved the beer. Breakfast was big and varied and good, but don’t expect a ‘full Scottish’. We will return to do more walking and exploring and ‘phone to book’.

A hotel where your every need is catered for, right down to supplying peanut butter to accompany my banana at breakfast. The staff have a great attitude friendly and very efficient.we had a whisky tasting combined with a gin tasting event which was hosted by a very informative Steve. We have stayed in the Grapes on few occasions and have seen a delightful transformation making it a great experience ( which I’m looking forward to enjoy again )the sooner the better. Go along and enjoy a really good break.

Would thoroughly recommend this lovely cosy friendly hotel. Ideally located in the centre of Newcastleton for our trip to the Scottish Borders and Kielder. Stunning scenery nearby. Rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard. Free wifi. Lovely and clean, comfortable bed, and peaceful for an undisturbed sleep. Lovely shower and decor. Bar staff and owner very helpful and friendly and we had a great service. Evening meal was lovely, home cooked, ample portions , particularly enjoyed the Cullen skink soup, garlic mushrooms and home made apple crumble as well as tasty main courses of baked haddock and Cajun chicken. A very good continental breakfast was served, with a range of cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, variety of cheeses and meats, toast and fresh juice and lovely fresh coffee. Plenty to fuel up before a day’s cycling and walking. Would happily return. Thank you Steve and team!

My wife and family went to the Grapes for Christmas lunch. The food and attention to detail was fantastic. Ethan, Stuart and Josh were outstanding waiters. I would highly recommend the Grapes restaurant.

Booked a table for two. Dining room very busy with festive dinners but we were accomodated in the bar area with a very decent menu to choose from. Service was swift and efficient. The food was piping hot and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our main and desserts. This is our second visit (we live a few miles away), and each time, it gets better.
