I rated this hotel as 5 out of 5 for the fantastic food and staff. The room however…….. we had a twin room can only describe as compact. How the beds were moved out of a king size configuration meant the plugs were behind the bed and we couldn’t use them. The mattresses on the beds were awful very uncomfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and neither of us had a decent nights sleep. The bathroom and particularly the shower was fab. We dined in the pub and the food was fantastic. We stay here before a cruise but due to traffic would probably stay nearer the port next time. Ample parking available too.

Needed an overnight stay, booked last min, found it Late Rooms. I’ll be honest it was one of the cheapest in the area that night. But what a find! Room was ideal, small but large enough (room 2). Very comfortable double bed, perfect sized en-suite with shower (no issues with temperature). Staff very friendly and welcoming both for accommodation and bar/food. I said cheap, it was incredible value, I’ve stayed in places triple the cost and much much worse! Room was nicely decorated, fresh and spotless. Decent quality water and soaps in the room, softness linen. No noise from the bar, rooms are in a different wing. Genuinely, they could comfortably charge much more (but hope they don’t!) I also ate in the beer garden, again very good choice, reasonable value. I went with white bait to start and then homemade chicken pie with skinny fries. Again, very good, fresh, tasty. I will certainly be returning, next time in the larger room which features a roll top bath (not seen it but saw the photos in other reviews and website) looks very similar money to the room I had.

Just stopped for a drink. Ended up having starters and pud. Food was excellent and good value. Staff very helpful and friendly wish it was closer to home. The who’s place is very clean, especially the toilets. Woidburner in lounge area so cosy in winter and covered outside seating with heaters for summer evenings

A short overnight stop here was a treat after a very long drive. Staff friendly and accommodating on arrival, with a super quick check in and a table booked for dinner in an already busy restaurant with a lovely lit fire. The bedroom can be accessed from the adjacent car park or bar area and passing the honesty bar and coffee area, you are welcomed by a comfortable and homey room. Our room (2) was small but perfectly equipped for 1 night. Small TV. Blanket for the cold nights. Fan for the hot ones. Bathroom was basic, very small but functional. Word of warning, the shower goes cold after the second person has a short dip. But the water pressure is wonderful. Relaxed departure, just leaving the key in the door and out. Very relaxed here, rural comfort and very friendly staff. Dinner here is essential, the food is simply amazing, typical pub food menu, but high end, and very tasty! I wish I could have stayed for breakfast :)

Just arrived back from a delightful overnight stay. We have eaten at and enjoyed visiting the pub many times over the years. The food is always very good and the staff are a really friendly bunch. We have been hoping to stay over for some time, so it was a real treat to stay in room number 1 last night. We found our room to be immaculately clean and very spacious. The decor was tasteful and bed was super comfy. The in room roll top bath was a real luxury also! The room didn't look tired or dated, like some pub rooms can - it was up to date and airy. I particularly loved the basket of local handmade treats available in the room! Check in and out was a breeze, it was nice there was a separate access door which means you have the option of getting to your room via the pub or external door. The lobby area was super cute with a nespresso coffee machine to use on a dresser and ample spare mugs, even takeout coffee mugs, what a lovely idea! The little milk bottles assigned to each room tucked away in the minifridge were adorable. Such a lovely place to stay and would recommend to anyone in the area in a heartbeat, will definitely be back again!

We stayed here when visiting Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) for 2 nights. The rooms are clean, have a comfortable bed (relative I know) and a powerful shower. Tea/coffee facilities are communal but not a big issue, but would be preferable to have to have them in the rooms. Only recommendation would be blackout blinds if staying in lighter months

I stayed here recently just for one night. Lovely old inn with friendly staff. My room was very small, no hanging room for my clothes but it was clean and very quiet during the night so I got a great night sleep. No tea/coffee in the room but you could go downstairs in the morning to make it but I found this a bit of a faff. The pub downstairs was great with superb food.
