The Maypole at Wellow

We stayed here for one night in August. Comfortable room - in a very pretty village. Dinner was delicious and can thoroughly recommend. I had local sausages, cabbage and mashed potatoes: husband had fish and chips. Portions enormous- make sure you build up an appetite!

Third time of visiting the restaurant and Yet Again, most items on the menu are sold out. I wont be patronising the place again came out for a meal with friends and sat eating a plate of chips. The third time no menu choice. Don't bother if you want a variety or chips. Badly managed stocking I hasten to add we weren't the only table that was let down by not having a choice Disappointed

What a delight. The pub/motel had enough parking for guests and there electric vehicle charging points near the rooms in the extension. Our room was spotlessly clean and well maintained. We had dinner in the pub/restaurant and discovered that each night has specials and we had two burgers and chips for £15 which were huge and filling. Continental breakfast was included in the price of our stay and there were some hot sausages and beans available as well.

We did not stay in the hotel but visited for a meal on Saturday night while staying locally. I emailed prior to visiting due to diet requirements, and this was responded to promptly by the chef. We was provided with a separate menu with great gf options. Both had fish and chips one gf, and it was amazing! Great food and service!

We've had better and had worse, the food could've been more flavoursome. The service overall wasn't very great even though they were quiet, we had to keep getting up. No one came back to check if our meals were ok or if we needed anything else or if we'd finished and wanted dessert, etc. Maybe we were unlucky and went at the wrong time, such a shame.

They may be focused more on their staying guests than people visiting for just food. We visited with a group of friends for a Birthday meal. The restaurant was cold and empty which was a red flag for a Saturday night. They seated 8 of us on a table that was meant for 6 by putting a chair at either end of the table. This was weird as there was plenty of larger tables available so why would you squash us all together? Thinking the restaurant would start to fill up, we seated. No the restaurant never filled up. The week before Id emailed asking if I could have a jacket potato for when I got there, with my steak. I had no reply but seeing has they served Jacket potatoes on their lunch menu it shouldnt have been a problem. Nope, no potatoes, only chips but they did manage boiled rice. I asked for salad instead of peas and just got salad leaves! The steak wasnt seasoned very well and tasted funny. I only had half of it. The cost of the sirloin was £28 and my husband had a massive mixed grill and it was £17! how do they work that out? The service was terrible. The meals didnt come out at the same time, the brisket was dry as though it had been left under a heat lamp, we were waiting for cutlery to start eating our mains for ages. To say the restaurant was empty, why wasnt the service spot on? where were the staff? We were never asked if we wanted a dessert either, we just gave up and went to the pub across the square. Loads more atmosphere. Never again!
