NAP York Central Park Sleep Station

I booked at Nap York Central park in June 2022 for September/October 2022. I chose the discounted flexible rate, as I didn’t see having to cancel or move my dates at all - my flight was paid for. Earlier this month my father suffered a stroke, was diagnosed with cancer, and was told he was in need of an operation on his heart. His quality of living went from active and healthy to in need of 24/7 care overnight. I contacted this property to see if even though the flexible option was non-refundable if there might be some leniency with this as I don’t see being able to travel in the near future, even at a partial refund (mostly for the $500 I already paid to be used for medical bills/needs). You cannot actually call or speak to anyone - they do not have phones. You can only communicate through a chat service. They don’t provide any details as to who you are talking to and my questions as to whether there is a management company I might reach out to were unanswered, and then I was just told ‘we don’t have phones’. After explaining my situation, they let me know they would not refund anything but would move the dates. According to my original booking, I would have six months to reschedule. Speaking to someone through the chat service, I was only given four months to reschedule and many dates blocked out and unavailable to me due to holidays. I pointed out that it was less time than my original booking stated and that went unaddressed, the person let me know that ‘my situation’ (my father possibly terminally ill) ‘was not their responsibility’ and they wouldn’t refund my payment or add any dates (which really would have just been giving me what I should have anyway, not exactly doing me any extra favors) and again - all questions as to whether there is an actual number or company to contact with questions was not provided. While I understand my original request for a refund was outside of the original terms, they don’t even offer the terms that are paid for and clearly stated. I’ve also worked at hotels and lodges in the past to know that they often make allowances for nonrefundable stays in cases of extreme circumstances. Booking.com reached out to try to negotiate and the only response they received was ‘no refund’. I’ve also had travel plans in the past change slightly and have been out money and have not asked for special accommodations or refunds from locations, but with the stress of my father’s health and rising costs, and so suddenly, I was looking for some empathy here. United Airlines is notorious for delayed customer service or non-negotiable refunds and I was able to explain my situation and received a full refund immediately. After some of the language used by whoever manages their chat service, I wouldn’t stay at this location at this point. I've attached some of the reviews on google, as well as management's insane responses (including taunting people about calling the police, or pointing out they don't speak English).

never should one consider staying there for any reason. It was nightmare! I mean everything there is worse than terrible. Simply a place like a shelter for drug users or metamorphosis. Much of the stuff are indeed indescribable! Not about the service, the cleaness the location etc... it's about the safety! One should never consider spending a night in a place that a metamorphosis howling all night long and having fun farting burping loudly ...while not dare to make the tiniest sound but waiting for the morning to escape....

I thought it was a really relaxing place. Since June 5th, I have stayed several times in a row. I stayed for almost a month, but it is very convenient because there are restaurants, a market, and a convenience store nearby. Good location. After all, it's safe and secure, and it feels like a little sure house with a round on each floor. I want to use it again. The staff were all very kind. The front door is also safe with a security door. I was relieved with a security door that could not be easily invaded from the outside.
Jazz on Columbus Circle Hostel

Blink and you'll miss it, but the Jazz Columbus Circle is right there near 56th and 8th, between the LenWich and Wendy's. There's no branding or signage on the door or even the front desk but, trust me, it's there and you're at the right place. Pack a towel. New health measures mean they don't provide those anymore. They make coffee in the mornings, but the equipment isn't maintained well, and there's always a supply of bagels, but there's no way to know how long those have been there. If you bring home a doggy bag from your dinner out, you can store it in the communal fridge but there's no way to heat your leftovers back up as the microwave is out of order. Need a glass of water in the middle of the night? The fridge dispenses filtered water. You'll just be waiting a while, though, as it dispenses it at an extremely slow trickle. An extremely slow trickle was also how the sink worked in my dorm's bathroom. More water leaked onto the floor than flowed into the sink for the simple task of washing my hands. At least there were no issues with the shower. As for the toilet, the handle was loose and needed to be pulled carefully and securely each time. In the bedroom, you're provided a place for your head, a couple hooks for your things and a small locker. Bring a lock, unless you didn't pack any valuables and believe wholeheartedly in the honor system. It's winter and the AC is still in the window, but the draft won't affect you as the heat works exceptionally well. What doesn't work well is the hostel's WiFi. The city's is faster and easier to connect to. At the end of the day, it's an inexpensive stay at a youth hostel a couple blocks from Columbus Circle proper. You get what you pay for.

Chelsea Cabins

Only two streets from Pensilvania Station, the location is really good! It’s just that the hotel is really too small, each room is only as big as a public restroom, and all the rooms are separated like a public restroom (I think this is why the cabin is called). There is no cap on the room, just a few wooden strips. Breathable, all rooms have no windows, all are breathable through the top (as if it is a public toilet), the exhaust system is not good, the smell is very strong, and staying for a long time will be disgusting and unbearable. The environment is dark, because the sound insulation effect is really bad. The landlord stipulates the ban on 9:00-21:00. One night, at 10 o'clock in the evening, a foreigner was still on the phone. Many people secretly complained, and the landlord came over and shouted! Also, the landlord believes in Buddhism, only vegetarian, and does not allow tenants to bring leeks into the market. On the first day, I bought a packet of instant noodles in the 7-11 store downstairs. I wanted to find him to heat the water. As a result, he looked unhappy and finally pointed to the beef soup on the box and told me that there was hot water in 7-11. . The advantage is that the rent is really cheap, if you live for many days you can also find the landlord to cut the price. Not far from there, there is a holiday inn that is three to four times more expensive. There are many tables and chairs at the door for free use. If you want to save money, you can go to 7-11 to buy instant noodles (about 2.59$) and add it at the counter inside the store. Hot water, then take it to the entrance of holiday inn and eat slowly, eat more than sitting in the subway! Oh, yes, this hotel has a free breakfast, bread, milk, biscuits, oatmeal, coffee, boiling water, and lots of fruit. This is really good, at least it can save you a breakfast fee of more than ten dollars!
