The service at Hotel 51 was excellent! They were able to check me in seamlessly, and room service was great. At the end of my stay they also safely stored my luggage before my time to head to the airport.

The worst Customer Service Experience ever. Booked a room with free cancellation through booking for almost $1k however due to change in plans I had to cancel. I have been chasing around to get refunded for a month already. AVOID this hotel at all costs. Am praying I do get the refund asap. However seeing the comments here I think I am in for a ride. Funnily enough the messages I sent through booking got deleted.

This hotel has two things going for it, the staff we encountered and the locaton......and that's all folks! The standard of the rooms is very poor. The hotel is outdated and badly in need of upgrading. The rooms look nothing like the photos. We had booked this long awaited trip to New York for a significant birthay present. While the room was big and storage was plenty with a decent bed, it was very old and tired. The TV stopped after the first night and when we called reception, they confirmed they had lost service likely due to the building works right next door which we were not advise of prior to our trip. At no time was there a note left in the room to explain this service interruption. The room was cleaned every day, but some of the towels we got had old stains on them. We don't ask for towels every day, but when we got them, some really needed to be binned and were either stained or ripped. After the second night my wife went to reception to discuss our deep disappointment. She met Raymond who was very sorry to hear our concerns and went out of his way to resolve the situation. Our room was changed that day and when we came back all our things had been left up to the room. Danny who takes care of the luggage was also extremely attentive. Raymond and Danny certainly make this trip for us. Thereafter every time we saw Raymond and Danny, they would have the chats with us and make sure we were happy. Danny also arranged our taxi on our lat day making sure we got a great driver to take us to the airport when we were travelling home. We felt sorry for the staff as we saw many people who were not happy and complaining. We feel that as it's greatest asset, the staff should not be put in the position where they have to deal with so many complaining guests. As already stated, the location of this hotel is great, but it really needs to be worked on. Taking a holiday in New York, for most people, requires a lot of money to be laid down. In a city that looks like it is still in economic recovery from the pandemic, more efforts should be made to keep visitors wanting to come back.
