My husband is a disabled veteran; as his caregiver, my #1 goal is comfort, as I’m also disabled & need to minimize our physical exertion.
We’d booked a room w/ a terrace to get fresh air while avoiding crowds. Bon talked into spending an extra $600 to upgrade to a larger room. I was assured it had a terrace. (It didn’t.) We were then made to wait in the 2nd fl lounge “a few mins so the room can be properly inspected.” After an hour, I called the front desk—we’d clearly been forgotten. Bon rushed upstairs & gave us room keys, offering a later checkout for the hassle.
Stepping off the elevator, our room was to the immediate right. We were greeted by a pile of dirty dishes & stained napkins on the ground outside our door. The butler hurried us past the mess & showed us the room.
By that point, we were physically exhausted & needed rest. After we thanked the butler, he gave a theatrical nod, indicating he was waiting for a tip. Neither of us were near our wallets so we assured him we’d find him later (we kept our promise.)
We were interrupted 3 times that night by staff who had wrong information. Night 2, upon coming back from dinner, we found our door completely blockaded w/ trash & a housekeeping cart, making it impassable for my husband & his rollator. We were brought a complimentary dessert as an apology.
We never left the room after that. Instead of celebrating a milestone, we were physically spent and demoralized. What a shame.
