Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa

Delightful old fashioned style hotel full of character. Wonderful staff and food is exceptional. My sister got married here in January and we have visited before to the spa which is also excellent. The food is 5 star quality. Excellent meal in the restaurant night before the wedding and full English breakfast was faultless. Rooms vary from very big and grand, to more budget friendly family room options. Definitely worth a stay here or stop by for dinner or to spend the day at the spa. I will be returning.

We've been here loads of times over the years both in the formal dining room and for casual bar meals. We decided to go for a quick tea the other night in the bar. The service and quality has always been great and you expect to pay a little more for this and the fact it is consistent. To start we had mushrooms on toast, this was very nice to be fair and fresh produce cooked well, but it needs to be for £9. Mains we had poached salmon nicoise (£24) and a lamb kofta (£22). The food was fine and there were no complaints and we were hungry. On reflection though both dishes were over priced for what they were. The salmon was not really a nicoise as there were no potatoes or olives in the salad - so that dish had no carb with it. Like I say, fine, but nothing special at £24. I know fish is expensive, but we'd do this in the week for tea and it definitely did not command this price for what was plated. The lamb kofta, again, no complaints and it was a decent portion and everything was cooked well. Just a bit underwhelming overall. Then the drinks, £7 a pint of lager (yes you read right) and £5.40 for the following shandy (half the beer is lemonade!). I know this is a hotel but this is really rather pricey. Shame really as the service was very good as usual, but for casual dining I don't think we'd choose to go hear in a hurry for a bar meal. The formal restaurant would still be a consideration.

Absolutely knackered and desperately in need of renovation. Carpet was really worn and dirty. No soundproofing whatsoever with very creaky floors. The room was incredibly hot with absolutely no way of cooling it down apart from opening a knackered window which gave onto a busy road. £120 a night, I would call this extremely poor value if you want a decent sleep.

Stopped here for a Full English Breakfast. Absolutely superb. Sausages, fried egg and bacon all cooked to perfection. Hash brown, mushrooms and black pudding all spot on. Service was polite and timely. Definitely going to come again cos it was well worth it.

Had an afternoon spa and overnight stay. Had our evening meal and breakfast in the hotel. The spa was great, the hotel was fabulous, room spotless and bed really comfortable, Food very good, but what stood out the most was the exceptional staff, from reception to the 2 men in charge of the dining room. They were all very welcoming, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend

We had a very pleasant and enjoyable two-night stay at this lovely hotel, set in attractive grounds. The welcome at Reception was exceptional and we found all the staff excellent: friendly efficient and fun! We had both breakfast and dinner during our stay. On the whole this was very good, but the odd dish was not a hot as we would have liked. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. But the bed - 4/6" - was too small for us, and the room could easily accommodate a larger size. Hot water was late in coming from the hand-basin tap and there were a few cobwebs round the windows. But for these fairly minor details, Ye Olde Bell would have scored a well-deserved five stars. In any case, we would definitely stay here again and recommend it. We loved it!

Excellent service as always Booked a table, Sunday lunch service had finished, dinner service not started, (90 mins before dinner service), but they accommodated us. Food was lovely, nothing was too much trouble The Eton Mess was divine, left stuffed - best food for miles

We had a group of 30+ staying for one or two nights (varied by couple) before a wedding at a nearby church. In organising accommodation and rooms the staff on reception were amazing. They had great advice for rooms accommodating elderly guests and were excellent when making last minute changes - as is always the case with weddings. On the Friday night they hosted a buffet meal for our guests and once again the staff were amazing, good service, helpful and entertaining. The food was good, a good range of drinks available and the accommodation itself was comfortable and clean. Expect a typical old English country pub feel - the clue is in the name!.

Staff were exceptional. I really liked that throughout my 4 night stay that the staff remembered my name and were really friendly and helpful. Any issue I had was quickly rectified. I reserved a Superior Double room. On Check in to my room I noticed it was a Classic Double (as advertised on their website). I queried this and was given a Superior Room quickly. Bathrooms were out of place, the two rooms I had did not reflect a 4 star status. Quite basic and there was no room to place any of my toiletries in the bathroom. Need a shelf please! Breakfast was delicious, I love the freshly cooked to order selection and the yogurt and fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries) were especially my favourite from the buffet. Agree with other reviews, coffee at breakfast is not the best!
