We checked into the hotel on Sunday September 1st and the front desk clerk gave us Room #216. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. We took the elevator to the 2nd foor and entered the room and my wife did not see there was a step down and unfortunately seriously twisted her ankle which immediately swelled like a balloon. I cannot believe that the hotel front desk did not give us a heads up or warning us there was a step inside Room 216 because this is very unusual that a hotel room has a step inside a hotel room. Needless to say, this ruined our 2 night vacation as my wife could not walk and was in bed for 2 days with a swollen ankle. I called the front desk to notify them and ask them for an ice pack. After about 3 hours, someone finally delivered an ice pack to our room. The hotel manager did not ever call us once to see if my wife was ok or offer to help in any way. I stopped by the front desk to ask for some advil for my wife and the attendant offered to sell me 2 tablets for $2. Very disappointing. Terrible service. Never coming back.

Let's start by saying this is a hotel NOT a resort. It's a lovely location, staff is very friendly (see David at door, Tyler at checkin, Emily a server) and is clean. 1) one week stay. Bed linens not changed. New this as a drop of coffee from in-room Nespresso dropped on pillow case and sheet. Remained there for 7 days even after requesting change. Someone reviewed that bed linen is light blanket between two sheets was correct. Could use additional. Robes are lovely and towels were changed daily. Rooms dated but clean . Also noted prior was no in room info on pool/spa/restaurant times. Could have been helpful. 2) spa was nice. Kids running in and out was not so wonderful. They were in the gym and looking for the indoor pool. Could have done without that considering the amount of money dropped that day and kids don't belong in the spa or the gym. 3) Holiday weekend yet no events planned. Seriously? Online stated movies, tropical drink tasting but zero. In addition, woefully understaffed. Perhaps college group return to university but no excuse. Pool had been staffed prior (see Emily) but during weekend, if one wanted anything, had to go get it oneself with only one behind pool bar/restaurant. To say there was a wait would be the understatement. Buffet breakfast.. a wait to get in to half empty restaurant. Buffet similar to Hampton but Hampton was cleaner. Waffle station was a disaster, not sure how long salmon was sitting out , bread and pastry were NOT fresh..crunchy stale croissant anyone? Scrambled eggs whites was a nice touch. 4) SURPRISE!! They have a market where guests can get snacks!! Found this by accident after spending $4.68 for a coke. Soda, chips, fruit and granola bars! Fabulous but no one I met knew of it. It's across from the spa shop. You're welcome. 5) Don't look for hats, sunscreen,etc on property. Walk down to the club. 6) canoes on property??? Where?? Nearby..yes. On property? Don't think so. Restaurants were good for lunch, snack and bites. Again, all clean and servers were great. It's a beautiful location but they need to up their game.

We checked in on time at 4, we arrived room not ready; no idea when it will be, little apology and didn’t offer to comp a drink or anything. Really not first class service and off to a very bad start. Shame we were looking forward to this and the place looks amazing. Not impressed with the greeting or treatment.

Our family just got back from a two night stay at the Wentworth and we were very disappointed. For the price of the hotel we had expected a resort style stay. The Wentworth is really a large hotel with three pools and a spa no amenities. There were no additional activities for the kids and when we asked if the hotel had any snacks for us or if we could purchase snacks before heading to the pool area we were told we could drive to Rite Aid and purchase them there. Our meal at Latitudes was good, probably the highlight of the stay but the hotel was barebones I would not recommend.

My fiance and I booked our stay at the Wentworth by the sea after many stays at the sagamore (one of the other opal resorts). We utilized the wonderful concierge services of the resort to help plan our time in Portsmouth and up the NH/Maine Coast. Diane helped us plan our hiking and provided us with trail maps and has us excited to work with her in future stays! Our stay has had everything necessary to relax and unwind with breathtaking views of the harbor while doing so.

This hotel is not set up for electric vehicles. They offered me a regular 110v charger and the circuit blew. I tried another outlet and it blew again. The hotel had little apologies and simply stated they are an old hotel and aren’t equipped to charge cars. Well…. This is not acceptable as our own government is pushing us to all own electric vehicles by 2030. A hotel of this stature and with what they charge certainly should be equipped with EV chargers

Huge disappointment. Priced as a luxury hotel, but didn't come close to being a high end property. Staffing was in short supply and generally poorly trained. Soft goods are tired and EVERYTHING is very high priced. They never got around to cleaning our room, front desk requests took hours to be delivered.They do a lot of weddings, so maybe they are good at that?? Thankfully at least Salt restaurant did a nice job.

Where do I begin? This historic old hotel is , well, just OLD and expensive for small rooms, small bathrooms and few amenities. The Pros: The location is excellent as it is 5 minutes from downtown Portsmouth The bellmen and the restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. The pool area was pretty if small by resort standards and a bit dated. A beautiful lobby and bar/restaurant, Salt Kitchen & Bar. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed two great meals at Latitudes waterfront restaurant & bar The Cons: The rooms are small and old. Everything about the room is outdated and nothing matches. You practically trip over the toilet going into the one sink bathroom. The makeup mirror in the bathroom did not light. The cups are paper. The nightstand light did not light. There is no turndown service. The cleaning staff does the bare minimum. This was altogether a disappointing stay in a beautiful part of the country. It is very convenient for travel throughout New Hampshire and Maine which we enjoyed very much. It's just sad to see an old historic hotel not live up to our expectations. I suppose I should have checked but it is a 3 star hotel at 4 star prices.

The actual stay was very nice, property was gorgeous, restaurant staff was very nice. However, when I called to change our date the customer service woman was unable to help me and had to keep putting me on hold to ask her supervisor. This would have been fine except it went on for an hour and the supervisor decided I did not have a good enough reason for wanting to change my date to allow it!? To be fair, it was 2 days before arrival but when on a road trip sometimes things come up and adjustments need to be made. So, for the lack of flexibility I won't stay here again.
