I recently stayed at Wentworth by the Sea with two friends for a girl’s trip. We were there for two nights. Our stay was lovely. We were able to check in a little bit early. We used the complimentary shuttle to take us back and forth into Portsmouth to see a show one evening. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Our package included an breakfast allowance (we had room service both mornings - the food was wonderful) and two free cocktails. Here’s the part that rubbed us the wrong way. Two us ordered cocktails off their drink menu and one ordered a Baileys on the rocks. We stayed and had a second round. When the bill arrived there was a food charge on it - 2 charges for $1.50 for ice for the “on the rocks”. Really? The other drinks had ice in them. There are ice machines on each floor and ice buckets in each room. It’s not a huge amount of money but just seemed ridiculous. I know it’s a silly thing but it left a sour taste on a nice evening. Other than that we had a wonderful time.

Overall great hotel. We loved all the small and large touches. Highlights include a heated bathroom floor, smart TV, outdoor hot tub, complimentary hot coffee downstairs in the morning and incredible room service. It's a beautiful building with amazing staff. We would return! Room for improvement is that ropm cleaning came relatively late, we signed up for a winter escape package but only got our welcome gift when we asked for it at checkout, our mattress is a bit sinky, towels a bit rough, longer hours for the outdoor hot tub (only open from 6-10 pm), and a bidet would be nice.

Went to the spa at Wentworth by the Sea. I got a facial and my husband received the Signature. The technician made me feel very comfortable and relaxed during my facial. My husband received a scrub and message. We both left feeling refreshed.

We chose Wentworth by the Sea for a mother/daughter weekend as we felt it was a central location to see Portsmouth; Salem, Mass. and Kennebunkport. We flew into Portland, ME as it's just tad easier in my opinion than Boston. The drive took about an hour and was pretty easy. The hotel is a grand old hotel that's been given some updates and TLC over the years. Could it use a tad more at his point, hard to say. We found our room and all of the hotel to be comfortable. The one thing I would suggest is to find out about weddings if you stay as it's a wedding destination. We were on the fourth floor of the side where the receptions are held and we could hear muffled music etc. until midnight the Friday and Saturday of our stay. We ate in both of the restaurants more than once and enjoyed our meals. Seeing that we were there in September, se didn't use any amenities although I believe the pool was open still. One thing that was great was free guest parking in a lot adjacent to the building. Always a win! All of the staff were accommodating in the restaurants, service seems fair for the crowd levels when we dined as in not too slow, not too fast. We had no issues with our room or stay so there wasn't a need to revisit the front desk. The hotel is just a quick drive to Portsmouth, maybe 10 minutes so it's not really walkable to restaurants etc. That wasn't an issue for us. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return to the property.

It was the best holiday getaway ever! Having been too busy with work this past year I’d not gotten any tome for a vacation and do I carefully and thoughtfully looked for a place to “steal” away after Christmas with family and friends. This place is amazing and I’m so glad to have chosen it for our stay! Rich in history it is well worth the money. We were greeted upon our arrival as if we were the only guests to be here. The check in was quick , the valet service exceptional and our room was perfect. Water view, warm and inviting with ample space including an oversized bathroom! Meals here are excellent in SALT restaurant but visitors have choices for dining close by in Portsmouth or the Kittery/York area. Lots to do also for those wanting to shop explore or simply relax as I did with my spouse! It’s very upscale but we’ll worth the price and ad a seasoned traveler I recommend it.

Very elegant - always a joy to go for a couple of days and enjoy excellent service! The sole in the main dining room is a must!! We once stayed for a month while our home was being renovated. It's our go to location for a peaceful, gracious get away!!

There could be a lot of nice things to say about this hotel. Unfortunately, management are incompetent, so ruin the experience. Who in their right mind charges an extra $1.50 for ice in a cocktail? Who charges an extra $3.00 for splitting a salad? I do not mind paying $420 for a meal for 4. I do mind the petinis of whoever is the small brained manger that thinks nickel and dimming their customers is smart. Get rid of them.

Pretty setting. Friendly but sometimes inexperienced staff. Rooms and bathrooms spacious and well decorated but like most historic hotels, something is malfunctioning. Dining room very uneven and expensive for the quality of the food. Fitness center is spartan and is mislabeled. Swimming pool is over chlorinated so crowding was not an issue unless you are lacking olfactory nerves. Resort fee is an expensive joke as almost no services offered. They need to up their game not their charges.

Worst "upscale" hotel experience of my life - it was disgusting. This historic building had its glory days when the Titanic was still sailing. We stayed in two different rooms our first night, since we had to ask the front desk to move us to another room around midnight when we saw a colony of bugs on the ceiling. There were no bug screens or curtains on the sliding windows, which other hotels around here have, that could have helped with the bug situation. Both rooms we stayed in were dank, dingy, dated, and noisy due to loud air conditioners and water pipes. The towels smelled musty. The hair driers were old and scuffed up. It is absolutely unacceptable to charge such high prices for this place. I would call it false advertising, since neither room looked like the more modern rooms on the hotel website. We left early the second day after I got woken up by what sounded like a loud generator at 7am right outside our door. The only credit goes to the polite hotel staff, who were kind enough to refund us for part of our stay.
