Ona Marinas de Nerja Spa Resort

So, sure, the accommodation is a bit dated and basic. The bathrooms could be bigger but the shower was powerful. However, the one bedroom apartments are spacious especially the Lounge/ Kitchen and for a family of four, like us (kids aged 7 & 10) there was plenty of space even with the sofa bed pulled out. Having eaten in quite a few buffet’s, the food here (as most people have commented) is sensational! Such high quality, healthy, delicious meals. Everyday, there are at least two different types of fresh fish on the menu - I have tried so many, such as John Dory, Sunfish, Tilapia, Hake, Tuna, Cod….. Everyday, they have a roast alternating with all the different meats, chicken, turkey, beef, lamp, pork. There’s always a variety of pizza, pasta, chips. But it’s all the fresh Spanish/ Mediterranean dishes which are so tasty because this hotel prior to the pandemic, only catered for Spanish. This has changed since with English, Irish and German guests. Despite this, there’s an authentic Spanish feel to this resort - I love that, having done all the Tui/ Thomas Cook types of resort with Brits acting like, well, you know what. Now for the entertainment. The kids get tattoos, balloon animals made for them and after the kids disco and games, the shows in the evening are impressive with professional dancers, acrobats, singers etc. There are pool aerobics classes during the day and staff are so engaging, funny, it’s in their blood to entertain and they love it. Jessica, in particular, is a natural entertainer and could be a presenter on a TV programme. She makes sure that the Spanish and English speaking guests are well catered for. This place is a gem. Great location, lovely pools, right on the beach. Sun loungers available, just don’t leave it too long, for the loungers or to book!
Hotel Balcon de Europa

Balcon de Europa
Having tried other cafes for a good breakfast our search continued, and we decided to go upmarket. The Hotel Balcón de Europa is the quality hotel right in the centre of Nerja. It has the location and style, and prices to suit. The caféteria has a shaded patio area down the side of the hotel bordering the Balcón de Europa itself. It is a lovely spot, very civilized and comfortable, with lovely sea views. The waiter attended within a minute of taking our seats, and we ordered two teas and a latte coffee. We studied the breakfast menu and my Partner and I chose the “Healthy Breakfast” which was natural yoghurt with cereal, red fruit and nuts. Like other breakfasts, we have had here in Nerja the yoghurt was not creamy or thick as we have enjoyed with really inexpensive supermarket fat free yogurt we enjoy at home. My Son had a bacon roll which he really enjoyed. The tea was not as good as we hoped; it was a blend which, we believe, contains a scented tea like Earl Grey (which we both find doesn’t suit us) and it was just not strong enough for our tastes. My Son’s latte was enjoyed. We received excellent and obviously properly trained service from our young waiter. Our second visit here on this holiday was our last morning on the day we flew home. We again breakfasted here (my Partner’s choice). This caféteria is quite posh, civilized and everything is ‘done properly’, it has some the best views here in the town, and it is re-assumingly moderately-expensive. Again the service was impeccable, and this time we ordered Americano coffees, with hot milk, for two, and a cappuccino for my Son. My Partner and I chose toast, and my Son chose a bacon and cheese roll. Everything was as it should be, efficient and pleasant service, and the food and drinks were very good. Civilized service a hallmark here, and it’s always a pleasure to viist.

Our first time at this hotel and it was a great holiday. The staff were all excellent from the reception lady who helped us out with the safe and extra pillows to the restaurant staff who were brilliant. The best we have seen. The sunbathing areas are spacous., always sunbeds available. No one allowed to get a sunbed before 8am and just a small civilised queue if you want one in a particular spot. It was very peaceful and with graet views of the sea. The guest are of the older variety so it was very peaceful. No ganes in the pool!! The food was good with lots of choices which we liked. There is a Spanish reastaurant which you can book but we only went once as the main restaurant was very good. Our room was on the top floor which we liked, it was on a corner with great views and a very large open balcony. The only downside was it was next to the lifts so we gtot alot of noise from that but we got used to it. There was also an extractor on the outsife sio we had some food smells in the eveing but overall we liked it. We are definitely going back next year in SEptember and hope to meet with some of the nice peole we met this time. Thanks once again the the hotel and all the staff, you made our holiday a very very nice stay.

The breakfast is of good quality and the variety is small. The service is very good, but the facilities are old. The bed with a baby is a bit small, and the parking lot is quite big, 14 euros a night. The location of the hotel is fantastic, it is best to lie on the lawn to basking in the sun, in addition to the elevator to the beach, praise!
