YHA Nelson by Accents

Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is very convenient. Facilities are good. I did however have a cluster of ants in my room. They were swiftly dealt with by staff within about 5 minutes after reporting. I was grateful for being able to leave luggage prior to check in but a bit disappointed i had to pay 2 nzd to store luggage in a locked on departure for about 90 to 120 minutes. I can understand charges for longer periods of left luggage on check out, but under 2 hours seemed a bit unfortunate. However i would still recommend the YHA for others, although if you want a more "party" type hostel, this isn't it.

The first experience when checking in was good. Male receptinist is actually horrible asked to move room after not sleeping. My partner called as a family emergenc. was going on at 9 and got told very impolitely by the roomatewho kept me up all night and asked to switch rooms. I got told no even after saying id pay the extra for smaller room. Then ended up in a screeming match of me being forced to apologise like a 5 year old to a girl who kept me up all night. Hence asking to kindly switch rooms. Horrible experiance would not reccomend at all.

I stayed here for two weeks whilst I was working in central Nelson and waiting to move into a rental property, so I can honestly say that the hostel is kept consistently clean and tidy (probably the cleanest toilet and shower facilities I have had in a hostel). I had a private double room (comfy bed) and it was basic but clean, but what more do you expect or need from a city centre hostel. Location wise is really convenient for all that central Nelson has to offer, really close to the weekend markets, shops in town and access to the hills and the Maitai valley (good swimming spots). Lots of info for local activities and adventures further afield. But overall it was managed by a very friendly host who we obviously got to see quite often as we came and went from the hostel for two weeks. Felt very welcome and would highly recommend to other travellers.

Awesome accomodation - clean, friendly and welcoming. They run a tight ship - room was great, reasonable pricing, very safe, in the middle of the city, only 50m from the bus terminal (quick and efficient from the airport) HIGHLY RECOMMEND - we will be back !
