I have visited Waterland many a time and each stay has been a memorable experience. It has become such an integral part of my visits to Sri Lanka now that I try to squeeze in a visit to Waterland either at the time of arrival or departure from Sri Lanka. I have written extensively why Waterland is my favorite hotel in Sri Lanka elsewhere, so I will not repeat myself here. However, continuous new additions I see on every visit time never cease to fascinate me; this time I admired the little goldfish swimming by my side in a pond surrounded by hanging plants while I was enjoying a shower in an airy section of the bathroom. A special joy on this visit for us was meeting the owner of Waterland Mark, in person, and chatting while sipping tasty cocktails. As always, we relished the exquisite Maha Oya scenery while soaking in our own private infinity pool of the elephant villa. The ever-smiling Waterland staff spoiled us by serving lunch and dinner on our own private deck. The delicious hoppers & string hoppers were beautifully presented on banana leaf in handwoven coconut leaf baskets. We always feel nostalgic leaving Waterland, but it also makes us want to return, a pleasing ritual to practice on a trip to Sri Lanka.
