My husband and I have traveled the world, and this ranks as the "weirdest" place we've ever stayed. Aside from the fact that the road is closed from the direction "maps" usually leads people, we finally found a route to this hotel. It looks like a typical chateau... picturesque and surrounded by beautiful green grounds. Upon checking in, we were led to our room in the turret, which was so hot, that we were really sweating before even unpacking. We went down to the front desk, and the nice staff told us they had one cool room in an unfinished part of the chateau, which was built on the side of the mountain, with cave walls. Sensing we would not be getting a refund, we were led by a very nice lady (who carried our large suitcases for us) through construction, cobwebby circular staircase, jumped down a little hill, and finally got to our room. It was definitely cool/cold, felt wonderful, was new construction with beautiful paint, an in-room sauna, a kitchen, and a balcony with a hot tub and table. Although it was wonderfully cool, it was also damp and there were some ants, since it was actually stone ceiling and walls. The lady who cleans and helped with luggage is also the cook in the morning, and she is delightful. The dining room is beautiful. After 3 nights, we grew accustomed to the strange, somewhat treacherous trek to our room and had a great time sipping wine on our private balcony and laughing.
