We had an unforgettable stay at Nagataki. The staff is so gracious, extending such warm hospitality from our pickup at the train station, luggage transport to our house, yakata dressing assistance, dinner and breakfast service, and dropoff in Magome. One staff member even gave my daughter an excellent in-room massage after dinner, capping off a relaxing evening. Our 100-year-old house was charming, with not only a kotatsu and irori inside but also beautiful views of the mountains outside. My only suggestion would be to replace the kerosene heater with an electric one so avoid the odor.

This special hotel is located on the hillside above Nakatsugawa. Our family stayed in a separate building consisting of multiple small rooms, bathroom, bedrooms and common area. There also is a shared onsen for guests, separate for males and females. The staff are friendly and provide very comfortable service in a not-too-formal atmosphere. The food was fantastic — some of the best we’ve had in Japan. The hotel has lovely gardens that must be beautiful when in bloom.

We spent a lovely night here while walking the Nakasendo Way. We enjoyed the cultural experience - the food, the rooms, the grounds and the view from them were all amazing. And the staff went over and above to make sure we had the best opportunity to appreciate Japanese culture. Our host, Mr Masaya Yoshida, was generous and attentive.

This ryokan was wonderful! The rooms were so charming, and the open air onsen, which looked out into the autumnal colors, was exquisite. The highlight was garden. The owner, Masai Yoshida, was very helpful and spoke excellent English.

Fantastic location amongst beautiful gardens. The owner Mayasaysan is extremely helpful, meeting and greeting all his guests as well as being an amazing chef. This is a family business which has extremely authentic accommodation with each guest having their own hut-building separated by gardens so maximum privacy is ensured. You have the option of using your own bathroom or using the shared onsen. A delicious meal was enjoyed thanks to Masayason’s cooking skills. For those walking the Nakasendo Way this is a great recharge location and there is the hotel bus to take you to Ochiai to start your next day’s walk if you do not wish to do the 4kms of road walking to get to Ochiai. A really relaxing stay and I sincere hope this property can stay on the family for years to come, as it has done for over a couple of hundred years already. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

It's a delightful establishment where the staff is dedicated to ensuring our half-board stay is a truly satisfying experience. However, it's worth noting that the accommodations are modest, akin to a 2-star rating, so it's important to keep that in mind.

Nagataki was a wonderful experience of a traditional Japanese inn combined tastefully with modern bathroom conveniences but also with an onsen on site. Our house was 150 years old and very beautiful. Nothing was too much trouble for our host, Masaya, and the food he prepared for dinner and breakfast was outstanding.

We stayed 2 nights in this ryokan and it was definitely an incredible experience! In addition to being magnificent, generous and thoughtful, this corner of paradise offers excellent WiFi and an unparalleled bus service. We warned Masaya not to like fish and he prepared special meals for us, for the picky eaters that we are and it was enormously delicious! What a nice touch :) I highly recommend this ryokan, I have only positive things to say and only wonderful memories. Thank you for giving us this perfect, dream-worthy moment<3
