"Location is THE best if you are planning to make Nagano your base and take the train to explore the other regions of the prefecture. It is literally connected to the train station on the 2nd floor. Plus there are great restaurants in Midori Shopping Centre which is part of Nagano train station."
"Omg we loved this hotel! Our favourite stay from the 3 weeks we spent in japan. So clean, near the station and has everything you need. Spacious bedroom and soo comfortable. We just loved everything about this hotel"
"Dormy Inn Nagano Zenko-no-Yu Natural Hot Spring Hotel is just a 5-minute walk from JR Nagano Station. For those using Google Maps, it might suggest a detour via a bus stop, but there's no need to go around – simply cross the road from the station exit and you'll spot it. This hotel is ideal for anyone looking to stay close to Nagano Station.
Downstairs, you'll find plenty of dining options, including izakayas. The hotel features a natural hot spring (onsen) and a sauna. Upstairs, there are two massage chairs and a full wall of manga books. Guests can enjoy complimentary chocolate-dipped ice cream bars and popsicles, with lactic acid drinks available in the morning. Don't miss the free late-night ramen served from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Overall, it offers excellent value for money.
The rooms and beds are on the smaller side, but we still had enough space to open two large suitcases. Self-check-in by scanning passports was super convenient. The mini-fridge came stocked with local jelly snacks and two complimentary bottles of water.
However, I wouldn't recommend it for guests with extremely high hygiene standards, as there were some minor stains on the toilet and chairs, though it didn't significantly impact our stay. Despite this, the overall service and design were quite impressive and a pleasant surprise."
"Nice hotel close to Nagano station, friendly staff, clean room. Just the wifi was slow and there's no fan in the bathroom. But overall would stay again.

"Rather old property. Some stains on the sofa, though they do not look like it can be cleaned. Other that that room is generally clean. However, hotel claimed that they do not have aircon during winter season, and said the only way to cool the room was to off the heater (which is the only mode the aircon duct can release), or open the window, though it is prone to bugs entering the room. Not recommended. Can stay at better properties near nagano station at similar price points."
"The hotel is clean. The amenities is quite complete. There are complimentary breakfast. The dishes is quite simple but comforting. Overall pleasant stays. Overall we have pleasant stays."
"The room was very clean and quite spacious, especially for a Japanese hotel. Even during our two-night stay, when we opted out of daily housekeeping, they still kindly provided fresh towels and linens. I managed to leave my room key in the room twice, but the staff at the front desk were always very helpful and promptly issued a replacement."
"Great location—loved having a Lawson right downstairs!
I didn’t realize Big Echo was on the 4th floor; otherwise, I would’ve planned to go for karaoke. But I already had a movie scheduled, so there wasn’t enough time.
The view was exactly what I was hoping for. I really enjoy staying in places with windows that offer such a nice view.
The only downside was the washing machine. It was quite slow and required coins. I even had to buy drinks from the vending machine just to get enough 100-yen coins for laundry.
I guess this kind of old-style machine is still common in Japanese hotels. Unlike the newer machines in China and Thailand that only take about 30 minutes to wash and another 20–30 minutes to dry (with separate machines), this one took significantly longer.
Overall, it was a good stay. I slept really well—even overslept a bit! Probably because I had spent the whole day snowboarding and was completely exhausted."
"We chose this hotel by location first of all, because we arrived around midnight at Nagano station. The hotel is very close to it. There was convenient check-in and check-out automatic system. The facilities of the room were great - private bathroom and a toilet, and also pajamas. The room is very small, but it is totally sufficient for a trip."
"Matsuya Ryokan is located inside the Niomon Gate of Zenko-ji Temple. It has an excellent geographical location and is just a few steps from Zenko-ji Temple. The front of the hotel is small, but the inside is a different world, very deep and open. The room we stayed in was half Japanese and half Western. When we opened the window, we could see the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the street scene along the street. The hotel has a hot spring bath and a Japanese restaurant. The food is very delicious and full. The proprietress is kind and the waiters are polite. It is very comfortable and cozy. It is said that this traditional inn has been run by the Suzuki family for six generations. It is very historical. When traveling to Japan, you should stay in this traditional inn to experience it. Although the price is a bit expensive, it is really worth the money."

Great
DDemi.9.2Room was extremely worth it's pricing with the cleanliness and you could feel the exquisiteness of the hotel from entering through the main doors all the way to your room.
Walking distance to multiple interesting areas such as Zenkoji Temple and very pretty eateries around the area.
1 extremely disturbing thing was whereby 1 of the huge mirrors by the make up table was right infront of our beds which made my family and I have a paranoid night stay. Other wise everything was top tier!
KKim Lian DorcasWe were drawn to this hotel because my friends and I absolutely love Chateraise cakes! Conveniently located about an 8-minute walk from Nagano Station, the hotel was easy to find. Check-in was smooth, and the rooms were comfortable and welcoming. The best part was the daily treat of Chateraise cakes offered as welcome treats and during tea time—a delightful indulgence. The hotel served as an excellent base for exploring Nagano, with popular sights like Zenko-ji Temple within walking distance. Overall, it was a wonderfully convenient stay.
GGuest UserThe breakfast room in the lobby was to small and not very nice. There where no seats available 6.45 so I went back to my room and waited 30 minutes. Still very crowded. You could hardly walk to a table.
WWei LeThis place is ~5mins walk from Zenkoji temple. neighborhood is peaceful at night.
Shoes to be removed outside the accommodation. Rooms are on the 2nd floor so you'll have to carry your luggage up (there's no lift).
Room (with window) is huge. You'll have to head downstairs to use the shared toilet and shared onsen (no toilet inside the room).
We were only allowed 30mins of onsen time for 2 pax - couples weren't allowed to use the onsen concurrently so we had to go one after another (i'm not sure if the instructions got lost in translation..). Felt very rushed so i didnt really get to enjoy the onsen experience, but overall was nice and clean.
Interesting 6.30am tour around the area and within the temple itself, followed by a simple vegetarian breakfast (porridge with omakase-styled sides with miso soup) back at the accommodation. The morning tour lasted from 6.30am - 8.30am.
The accommodation provided a fleece blanket to each pax to bring to Zenkoji temple to keep us warm during the morning praying ceremony. We went on 30 Dec and it was SO COLD.
Overall interesting experience but accommodation price is pretty steep IMO.
GGuest UserThe geographical environment is very good, close to the station, very convenient. The hotel prepared a lot of supplies, which can be taken at the lobby. The room is very clean, the bed is very comfortable, and if you don't like the pillow, you can choose your favorite one in the lobby. The breakfast is also delicious, and you can add it when you check in. The hotel can store luggage, just tell the staff. Disadvantages: There is no humidifier in the room, and it will be a little dry when the heater is turned on in winter. The air purifier has a strange smell all the time, so I didn't turn it on later. Overall, I am quite satisfied and will consider staying again if I come to Nagano again.
GGuest UserIt’s a hostel. We have to pay for the towels
Good mattress but my blanket came without covers on. So that’s not good housekeeping.
The bathing - water spray good strength with shampoo conditioner and body wash.
There is laundromat.
Dust at the corner of the rooms
The aircon heat only covers the top but couldn’t get to the whole room cos the beds blocked the air ventilation. Hence cold sleeping at the lower bunks
Very very very tight space.
It’s walking distance from station. 10 mins
Surrounded by eateries
We got this cos wanted a budget stay with resting space for 4 people. So it fits my checklist nevertheless.
KKs TamThe location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.
AAnton VoroshilinThis is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities.
However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead.
I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant.
The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.
GGuest UserWe arrived from Tokyo on a late shinkansen, and needed to stop overnight before catching the bus to Hakuba in the morning. Hotel Abest had the best rates and their checkin counter was open until late.
We had a room on the ninth floor. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean, and there was even an automatic massage chair.
We added breakfast, and the photos I have added show the nutritious hot breakfast and the view from the small restaurant on the tenth floor.
Would absolutely recommend staying here!
AAnonymous UserThe room was very nice - sufficiently large and with all necessary amenities (even a small fridge). The room was clean and in good condition. The staff was very kind and stored my luggage for free, as I arrived early in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located, yet in a rather quiet place. It's a walking distance from both Nagano station and Zenkoji temple (approximately 20-25 minutes), however, do note that the nearest bus stop is about 900 meters away, so if you got a lot of luggage and do not intend to get a taxi, that may be a bit far. They also have coin operated washing machines and dryers, in case you need them. Overall, a great option for most travelers, especially in terms of value for money.
