We come here quite a lot as a group of friends and don’t usually have too many issues. We visited Friday evening (15 of us) and were upstairs in the separate room. Service started off great, we ordered and got the food quite quickly. However, when my pizza came it was quite badly burnt. I asked them to take it back and the response was “it looks pretty good to me”. It was black around the whole outside of the pizza and the toppings were pretty dark too! Replacement pizza was a lot better. When it came to clearing, only half of the table was cleared of plates and we didn’t see a member of staff after that for ages! We also had dessert menus but didn’t get chance to order as no one came back to us. Eventually, a member of staff came up to take empty glasses away and when one of us questioned him about a dessert order or the rest of our plates being cleared, he looked uninterested and just proceeded to take the glasses. Service was pretty poor on this occasion which is a shame really as we usually enjoy it! We may look elsewhere in future for group bookings.

Booked for my son's 18th. 12 people. Haven't been in years so thought let's give it a try again as the setting is nice by the canal. We won't be rushing back. Place is nice but we were put upstairs and had that to ourselves. Maybe because of that the staff concentrated on the people downstairs as it was easier to get service by going to the bar ourselves rather than wait for the staff to appear. Food was hit and miss. We ordered a charcuterie board with our drinks at the bar while we waited for our other guests who were running late. That was nice. My daughter enjoyed her bruschetta but her Bolognese was bland. My mum had the lasagna and not being one to complain she avoided the burnt top and ate most of it. I would have sent it back as I find it hard to believe a chef would serve it up like that. The pasta was clearly over cooked and tasted dry with the bechamel sauce saving it. I had the marinara bread to start. Not sure if that's what I got as the waitress couldn't remember what it was but as no one else thought it was their's it had to be mine. It was ok but tasted more like it was covered in tomato paste than anything fish based. Followed up with a tuna pizza which was just ok too. Thankfully my son, who's birthday it was, really enjoyed his halloumi starter and his risotto diavolo. Would we return soon. No Would we recommend for a group booking. No

We visited while cruising Lancaster Canal. The pub was nice and the beer garden was a nice place to drink beer in the sunshine. This is a nice place to stop when on the canal. The food looked okay but we didn't order. The inside of the pub had a strong smell of the kitchen - the smell of deep fat fryer that needed an oil change. It made me feel sick when going to the bar area near the kitchen. I would return here if in the area again.

2nd Visit for lunch with friends, could not fault the service or food again. Had the 2 course lunch deal which we found very good value for money. Some aspects of the property are looking rather old eg the rugs in the bar area and the car park and general surroundings but this would not put us off a 3rd visit.

We haven't stayed here since before covid and we were looking forward to it as we had good memories, however we were left disappointed! Room dated , tired with mould/damp on ceiling of open plan bath area and definitely overpriced. The food and drink at the restaurant was extremely slow , the risotto and fish bland and very little customer service, although credit to the chef who cooked the 2 steaks to perfection. There was also an extremely loud drunk man in the restaurant that staff didn't challenge about his behaviour, who then came through to the bar to be loud and obnoxious in there too. Unfortunately no one on reception in the morning to tell just a sign staying put your keys in the basket. Such a shame, but we will definitely not be returning or recommending the place to anyone.
