Remember the last glowing review I wrote? I feel quite the opposite now. I'm glad to see that the general manager replied to one reviewer to say that the hotel is undergoing a complete renovation in November, because it looks like the place hasn't been touched in terms of improvement in the last decade. (That is, it was shabby in 2017 and shabbier yet this year.) Let's see if I can remember everything: • I wondered if they ever locked the external doors, because I never had to use my key to get in. (It was policy to do it in 2017 and earlier, because I distinctly remember having to use my card to get in before.) • The first thing I noticed after walking in was that the hallways stunk. • The couch/settee had stains on it of questionable origin. • I knew the coffee table had been cleaned because I saw the streaks on it when the light hit it just so, but I wasn't sure about the nightstand when I saw a ring on the wood. • There was a dent on the inside of the bathroom door. (Since it was an accessible room, it's possible that it was made with someone's wheelchair and never repaired.) • I noticed tile had chipped away along the base of the floor near the tub, because a piece the size of a quarter was missing. • There was a mark on the side of the tub that was probably created when the enamel chipped away, but the rest of the room was so shabby that I spent several minutes looking at the spot to make sure it wasn't blood! • This is probably the first hotel I've stayed in where there was no bread for toast. (I'm not a morning person, so this cause a serious misfire along the lines of, "What am I supposed to eat?!" in my tired brain.) There were English muffins, something that might have been a fruit bagel, waffles, cereal, oatmeal and a couple of hot dishes (one of which was turkey sausage). Thank goodness for the muffins...between being lactose intolerant and having a stomach that doesn't accept much before 11:30 in the morning, my breakfast options can be limited even at the best of times! I was so disappointed in the state of the hotel that I went home a night early (and thankfully appear to have a refund pending). If it was less shabby, I might have been persuaded to stay as long as I'd originally planned. (It was only the fact that it wasn't crawling with spiders or bugs and more broken than dirty that kept me from leaving in the first place!) If I ever come back to the area, I'll probably follow other reviewers to the Hyatt. Built in 2019 and—at least for the sample dates I checked—$10 cheaper? Yes, please!
