Just returned from two weeks at Club Del Carmen, which we booked on an exchange holiday through RCI. We are a retired couple in our seventies and we are not exactly party animals any more (we were once) but we like a drink and some music in good company. Pre arrival, we received a welcoming email from the resort thanking us for our booking and asking if we had any questions or special requirements - not all RCI resorts do that. We arrived late in the evening and reception was waiting for us. Check in was really friendly and efficient. The one bedroom apartment was clean, well furnished and in a nice location overlooking the pool area. Everything was in good working order, except there were no English language TV channels (except, for some reason, Sky News). There was a notice in reception and the receptionist explained that this was due to a problem with the satellite TV provider and many resorts in the Canaries, Southern Spain and Portugal were having the same problem. It didn't bother us too much as we hadn't gone there to watch TV anyway. The WiFi in the room was excellent and we could stay in touch online. Everyone on the resort, from management, staff and other guests were really friendly and freely shared lots of local information. We made lots of friends and guests were arriving and leaving every day - there doesn't seem to be fixed changeover days as in other resorts. Being late September, there weren't too many children staying except very young (pre-school age) and they were all well behaved. Most guests seemed to be British but there were a few French and Spanish guests. The bar/restaurant on site (Bailys Bar) served a good range of food at very reasonable prices. They also had a few special nights including a Mexican night, a curry night and Fish and Chips Friday as well as a Sunday Roast on Sunday lunchtimes. They put on a Garlic Prawns masterclass and a Paella masterclass on two separate days. There was live entertainment 4 nights a week and a pub quiz and bingo on two evenings a week. The bar staff were very friendly and they have two happy hours a day with all drinks two for one. The resort is located just 8 minutes drive from the airport and there is a bus stop right outside the entrance. The resort is at the Matagorda end of La Avenida de Las Playas, the main "*****" along the sea front with literally dozens of shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance and is right across the road from a wide sandy beach. We really liked the resort and would definitely go back again.
