Arlberg Hotel Mt. Buller

I went into the hotel after a long hike to get a takeaway coffee at Woody’s cafe inside the hotel at 1:45pm on Wednesday, January 15th. Unfortunately as soon as I entered, the man behind the café counter immediately rolled his eyes at me right off the bat. I asked how he was doing and if there was any menu to look at and he responded with I’m getting ready to close up in a very disrespectful tone and dismissive expression. The hours listed shows that the café is scheduled to be open until 2PM, so I asked if they were closed now as I was just looking for a takeaway coffee. He responded again with more disrespect and essentially a “f*ck off” through his behavior and tone of voice. I understand if service was not possible if they were closing early, but, I am deeply disappointed and upset by the unnecessary disrespect. Especially following a beautiful experience of hiking in the mountains.

We were at Mt Buller in early summer for a bushwalking trip and as a ski resort the place was almost deserted. However my 5 star rating here is solely due to great service from the most friendly and helpful bar tender Tom. Really made us feel at home, thanks Tom.

I went to Arlberg for dinner after twighlightbskiing so I was in all my ski clothes with only my phone. I was in a group of 22-23 year olds. The first couple that went to the bar didn’t get ID ‘d but then the next couple did. I was the only one without ID (because I was night skiing) but I had photos of all my licenses, passports, birth certificates AND my did girls ID app which is a government document and legally acceptable in Victoria for alcohol service. The bartender was extremely rude and flat out refused to serve me. After calmly explaining the digital ID he called his supervisor over who merely said she can’t override bartender discretion. I was extremely disappointed how this was handled. I also told them I’m a bartender myself and know that digital ID’s are acceptable for RSA service. Not only that but I work on the mountain just a few shops down. They wouldn’t budge. Clearly his pride got in the way of his job. It was a shame, all I wanted was a glass of wine to pair with the gnocchi I ordered. Won’t be coming back considering how rude their staff were.

My review is extremely dated. But it kept bugging me as I wanted to compliment Carol (I think) for her assistance during my stay back in June 2022. Firstly, this is the first time our family had went to a ski resort for a stay. Secondly, Alberg was a GREAT accomodation which we had all enjoyed. Easily assessible via shuttle, great and big rooms, it is right within the snow terrain, we even got to experience falling snow here for the first time. One incident striked me deeply, we were on our way back to resort via the town's shuttle bus. My phone fell out of my pocket. Phones being an indispensable part of our live now, losing it meant a whole deal. We tried to seek help from the local police to no avail, returned to the hotel and I think it was Carol who helped me make a few local calls to the Lost and Found counter in town to check on it. The entire town feels like a mini community on its own. Everyone seems to know each other and honesty is 100%! Carol shared that there were reports of people losing big stacks of cash and they were handed in on the same day. I tried to use Find my Phone to reach out to my phone. Eventually, my husband informed that my phone was found at customer service in town and chided me to head over for it. Indeed, within a few hours that day, my phone was FOUND! Missed my ski lessons that day, but the ski centre was very flexible to helped me reschedule mine to the next day. I may not be able to return to Mount Buller in the near future. But this little town will always form an etch in my heart. The hospitality, the honesty and our first snow experience in a Ski resort remained magical and unforgettable. Thank you to the team in Mount Buller.

Wi fi did not work for 2 days. Staff said yes it has issues. Glasses for juice in breakfast area are antique and need replacing. Drying room is on the floor you stay, so you must lug everything up stairs

We had such a good time during our stay. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, especially the front office staff and the ski hire team. We would happily return to this fantastic ski on, ski off hotel at Mt Buller. You have such a friendly way despite the high volume of people, and it is appreciated. ALL THE BEST: highly recommended!
