Charters Towers Tourist Park

Stayed in a 1 bed cabin. Decent enough, for Charters. A/C worked well. Wifi worked well at times and poorly at others (probably when the kids were all streaming). Bed was comfortable. Quiet. Cabin not huge but kitchen decent. Parking right next to cabin. Shower decent. Full size fridge. Close enough to everything in town but not right on the highway. A cabin park that gives you more than exactly 4 plates, 4 bowls, 4 cups etc yay!!!!! And a can opener and a corkscrew! Good on them. Pool small but clean. Laundry useful. Happy enough.

We (one couple) stayed on Mon 3-June-24, for 1 night. Our (dated) Cabin was neat, tidy and clean. Management was helpful - Thank you. Off-street safe parking. The park is quiet (no main highways or train lines). Visit Tower Hill Lookout while there! Yes, recommended for passing stay.

We stayed in a 1BR superior cabin. It was a comfortable size for the 2 of us. It was well equipped for independent travellers. The cabin was clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable. The shower had good flow of hot water. The bedroom aircon was effective but the aircon in the living area was slow to cool the room after a hot day. There was a small swimming pool that was clean, not too cold and had a spa. Wi-Fi was ok. The manager was very friendly and helpful.

The cabin’s bed light didn’t work and the shower dripped such that we had to engineer a towel to absorb the noise. Reported it and were assured it would be looked into. Returned later in the day and couldn’t get in as the door lock was dodgy. Took 5 minutes of manipulation to get the lock open. Discovered neither light nor shower had been repaired. Had to silence the drip again to go to sleep. Woken at 12:30 on the second night by the smoke alarm in full scream. Waved a towel at it and it stopped. No evidence of smoke or dust. Got to sleep eventually when the adrenaline subsided. The alarm went off again at 6:25 am again no apparent reason. Took the staff through our experience and their response was: Light needs a new ballast, don’t have one! Shower tap needs reseating. Haven’t got time! Smoke alarm - well it could be the battery but they have been checked lately! Lock - we use a master key and didn’t notice anything. I remained polite throughout as I have owned and run holiday accommodation and understand the challenges. I was amazed at the absolute lack of concern or apology for our poor experience. I didn’t mention the fluff blowing around on the floor. The grit underfoot or the missing architrave and mould in the bathroom. I didn’t feel they were interested. We have stayed in hundreds of cabins across Australia and this park had the most disinterested management we have ever experienced.

Discovery park Charters Towers: We are were for 2 nights and I can't speak highly enough of the owners of this site. Upon arrival we were guided to our site where they made sure that everything was in working order before handing us the ensite keys. Last night we were treated to their first camp overn dinner of the 2023 season. The food was amazing BUT more so the effort they put in to prepare the food. If I could give 11 out of 10 I would. In the words of Arny... " I will be back"

The cabins was large, roomy and the beds comfortable. Easy to find and the staff were great with the booking in, easy as. Quiet location, off the main road. Shuttle bus to the tower for drinks and nibbles for the sunset.
