The location is excellent. Especially in the morning, Lake Biwa is a place you want to look at forever. If you are staying for multiple nights, you can choose whether or not you want your room cleaned, and the customer service is polite. Meals are served buffet style, and I had curry rice.

The rusty exterior, the only foreign staff, the dark atmosphere of the long corridors, the lack of maintenance inside the rooms, the smell of cigarettes or mold... Overall it was a hotel you should not go to with your family.
The hotel was so bad it made me wonder if I was in Japan, and when I asked the receptionist to change to a non-smoking room they coldly replied "No, we don't have any available."
