A lovely refurbished hotel and hats off to the young couple behind this. Everyone was very welcoming and though it’s dog friendly not everyone welcome our 2 big German shepherds, not the case here. Bar, restaurant and lovely lounge area, all dog friendly. Evening meal and breakfast excellent. We gave feedback to 2 minor things we noticed, only one dog bed in the room and could do with more tea/milk, all welcomed and to be honest we only needed to ask. Will go again when we’re hiking on Dartmoor next.

Fantastic place to stay. Lovely bar and restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food and service was first class + Very dog friendly even the restaurant. £10 for dog but dog bed, bowl and treats included in the room. We had room 2 it was massive with views over Dartmoor with a fantastic breakfast included. It’s located in centre of village, Nice walks Bovey and Chagford worth the short drive. Will be rebooking ⭐ ⭐ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not one to complain, it must be stated that I was too nice to the uncompromising, smiling White Hart management. We explained that my wife and I’d had a horrible night of upset stomachs after dining in-house. Both of us were ill, which points to contamination at our dining table. No apology or gesture from the smiling management. I should also have stated, that with my three choices unavailable I had opted for the waiter’s suggestion. The expensive lamb shank was unpleasant and tough. Money wasted. Shame, otherwise it’d been a pleasant stay.

Stayed here on a 3 night break. Typical old coaching inn with a nice ambience. Spotlessly clean room, very comfortable bed. Well appointed with complimentary tea and coffee as well as homemade shortbread. En-suite up a step due to uneven nature of the floors. Lovely big fluffy bath towels. Excellent shower but over the bath so if tall like my husband was difficult to stand up fully as ceiling level low when standing in the bath. Room well heated and at a comfortable level. Usual creaking floors and up and down steps on the landings, so if mobility issues not the best. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and there was a good choice of food continental and cooked. Found the full English too salty for me but the omelette was just right. Croissant and pain au chocolat fresh and very good. Ate here the first night of our stay but several dishes not available and the meals we chose were not as good as they could have been. I had the curry of the day chicken tikka but there were big pieces of barely cooked potato amongst the chicken!! The actual accompaniments of rice and naan bread were both very good. My husband had excellent chips with his ham and eggs but found the ham disappointing. For the comfort of the rooms would definitely stay here again.

Have seen many changes at The White Hart since the days of the 1980’s and it being a first class establishment owned and managed by Peter Morgan. We returned on Wednesday for a lunch with friends and were so pleased to see the new owners have been complementary to the listed building with their decor and furnishing skills. What a delightful setting to enjoy a group meeting. Lunch menu had something to suit everyone. The staff were well turned out - no scruffy Tee shirts and jeans here - they gave us excellent attention and so polite. A great asset to the company. Good to see that coffee and cake are available in the lounge area. Unfortunately we had to all leave quickly due to heavy snowfall but agreed to have another meet up here in the summer. Hard to follow in Peter Morgan’s footsteps but you are certainly following on his heels. Congratulations and thank you.

This hotel delivers the full package. From arrival and check in to check out the experience is positive. Warm and cosy with really friendly welcoming staff from whom nothing is too much trouble.. It's an old building full of history and character but decorated with neutral modern style. Lounge bar, public bar and dining room are all very comfortable with a good selection of ales, beers, spirits and cocktail options and the food served at lunch and dinner it top quality. Breakfast is very, very good and the Sunday roast is to die for. Rooms are period and very comfortable accessed by the expected wonky floors and changes of floor levels which adds to the 'olde worlde' ambience. Parking is pay and display a very short walk away with other limited time on street parking too. Great location for Dartmoor exploration and the town has other pubs and eateries available too. Highly recommended for a cosy get away.

Please can you pass on our thanks to all your staff for another wonderful stay - this is our fourth stay at The White Hart and indeed the very best; fantastic service from every member of staff during a very busy time, especially from Liv and Julie and nice to see a hands on manager in charge! Delicious food on both nights and brilliant breakfasts too. The improvements that the new owners have made to The White Hart into another league and we very much look forward to our next visit, number 5!!!
