As I checked in last Monday at the Aloft, Tobias Bradley, one of the Front Desk Managers, noticed it was my birthday. From then on, he made my stay, a very special one. When you’re away from home on a special occasion, it could feel very lonely, so, every single detail, was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the rest of the staff, specially, Gustavo, at the restaurant, who always had a warm smile and a kind gesture. In addition, this hotel has a perfect location, in an upscale area at Punta Carretas, practically next to a big shopping mall, surrounded by great gastronomy, and a block away from Rio de la Plata. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such a wonderful experience. I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

This place was perfect in every way. The check-in, the room, the service, and the dining room staff were all wonderful. Our room was clean, the water was hot, and the bed was comfortable. This hotel is ideally located as well. The mall and grocery are within walking distance, and some excellent restaurants are also within walking distance.

Decaying hotel and installations.
Needs repair/retrofit urgent.
The room was terrible: dirty and scratched walls, bed seemed to be recently used (although it seemed clean sheets) or was badly made.
The bathroom was old and the floor was dirty
the whole experience was a nightmare.

This hotel is located very close to the attractions of the Old City and Independence Square. The room is clean and tidy, with a refrigerator and an electric water heater. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and it is a very good breakfast. Although it's not right next to Xincheng Beach, the price/performance ratio is very good and it's really unbeatable. Check-in can be considered.

I came to this hotel after switching from of an extremely historic boutique hotel (aka old and smelled of dust) that my travel agent put me in. This hotel had everything you would expect from a boutique hotel. The hotel has a nice vibe, friendly staff, in a trendy, safe neighborhood, rooms done mid-century modern and with many modern and thoughtful amenities. They have those fancy toto bidets, outlets everywhere, good water pressure and beautiful views of the beach from your bed. The only thing missing was being able to open and close the curtains from the push of a button. The breakfast is plentiful with a good selection of breads, fruits and yogurts and a few hot dishes. They have many restaurants within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.
The NH Montevideo Columbia hotel is in a perfect location only minutes from the major tourist attractions of Montevideo such as the Plaza Independencia and the Solis Theatre. There are 136 elegant rooms at NH Montevideo Columbia. Many offer spectacular panoramic views over the Rio de la Plata and all come equipped with free Wi-Fi and LCD TVs. There are connecting rooms and family rooms available. Portón Nuevo is our stylish restaurant offering fabulous views over the water and is where we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of options for any taste. Our à-la-carte options for afternoons and evenings feature local and international cuisine, while we also have a modern bar where you can enjoy a light snack and a drink. Enjoy Montevideo’s lovely weather on our 9th floor terrace. For sports enthusiasts, we have a gym and a sauna. There are also 9 meeting rooms for 250 people.

Wow. One of the most ridiculous experiences in over 35 countries and 150 hotel stays in my life. Arrived at the hotel which looks dated from the outside but I was confident, based on the reviews, that the rooms would be decent as I expected. Slow check in process but staff fairly friendly. We got to the room which, no exaggeration, was one of the most dated, smoky, disgusting rooms I’ve been given. Rather than complaining at the end of the stay, I returned to reception and said that the room was horrible and smelt terribly of smoke. I asked if we could be moved to a nicer, newer room. This wasn’t well received but Leonardo (hotel receptionist) said that he would arrange for us to move to a room on the eighth floor. We fetched our things from the first room and waited at reception. After Leonardo had ignored us for a few minutes, I asked again if we were being moved to a better room. To clarify, by better, I was asking simply for a more modern room that did not smell of smoke and that reflected the photos of the hotel online. At this point, he lost his temper and said that we needed to go and sit and wait. I explained to him that we had a reservation later in the evening and that we needed to check into our new room quickly. He behaved aggressively and with a short temper - telling me that I should basically be grateful that he was moving our room! I explained that, as a customer, we pay for a room of a good standard for the price and that he was not doing us a favour! He then accused me of ‘harassing him’ about having a better room! There was no element of ‘harassment’ and only Leonardo speaking in a rude and totally unprofessional way. I could not believe what was happening! At this point, I asked to cancel the room as we were going to stay elsewhere. I asked Leonardo for confirmation that the cancellation would be free and he told me ‘he did not have time to write this confirmation’. I explained that it would take him less than a minute and that we could only leave the hotel if we were sure we would not be charged. He begrudgingly provided Brie after demonstrating a further bad attitude. I am sure that the hotel will reply to this review with a different version of events but, all I can say is, this hotel is seriously dated, in a bad condition, smoky in the room we were given and the attitude of Leonardo was one of the worst and most bizarre I have ever come across. I am also making a formal complaint to the NH Hotel group, whom I expected better of.

Breakfast was not too good but acceptable. No extra beds should be possible. There should be no problem with children and the location is quite good, next to the sea, the sea view room looks good. There are parking spaces, not many.

The rooms are comfortable, and although they are not that big, I had plenty of space. The temperature in the room was quite comfortable, so I didn’t even turn the heater on in any day. Breakfast was nice, and the “doce de leite” was incredibly good. The only things that would benefit from improvement would be: restaurant (the food at dinner was not worthy the money at all), availability of cork screw and wine glasses in the room. I wanted to open a wine bottom and the hotel sent someone to open the bottle for me, instead of sending the cork screw…

One of the most beautiful hotels I stayed at. It is a centenary Palace, richly decorated and preserved. The restaurant is wonderful! I recommend at least 1 night (preferably the 1st or the last) as the hotel is close to the airport.

Outstanding
BBryce van de LaarWe spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood.
It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything.
The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites.
Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!
GGuest UserVery helpful front desk, nice lounge area for watching a futbol game or just reading, bar area, excellent breakfast, and somewhat small room but great bed and bathroom. You can walk in 10 minutes to a beach and walk the Ramba, or use a nice indoor pool. It is located 15-20 min from the old town but in return you can just park your car in front of the hotel, restaurants are convenient, and it is the best location for going to the airport of Puerto del Este.
NNeal RMy stay at the SORO Montevideo, Curio Collection by Hilton was perfect in every way. From the time the friendly staff at the front desk greeted me at check-in, to the time they said good-bye at check-out, everything was perfect. The room was beautiful and well-appointed and decorated, wi-fi and the fitness center were top-notch, and the breakfast was great (I didn't eat any other meals at the restaurant). The location of the hotel, across the street from the Rambla, easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants, is ideal for tourism and business. At the SORO you get the charm of a boutique hotel with the benefits of the Hilton Honors program. I know that whenever I am in Montevideo, the SORO will be my first choice of where to stay.
A lovely old school hotel in an excellent location. Try to get room 66 [or 67] which has a balcony with views over the city and the port. Staff displayed variable ability or willingness to be helpful-e.g. in providing information like bus timetables [old school doesn’t mean not being able to use the internet]. Early check out time of 10.00 another negative point but I would definitely stay there again.
The location is perfect, if you are travelling in and out of Montevideo by bus. And at 50$ per night it is a bargain. Otherwise try and stay somewhere else. The hotel is not a 4* by all means. Noone speaks a word of English (I do speak broken Spanish, still difficult), housekeeping never showed up. I checked out one day early and although I sent an official request from booking and asked at reception, they took the whole amount.
GGuest UserAs a Canadian traveler with large family, this boutique hotel in central Montevideo was one of the finest places I have stayed at. The front lobby staff (especially Laura) were incredibly helpful and English was very good. They are available on whatsapp to answer questions prior to your visit. The roof top breakfast dining was really great spread with hot meals. The location is generally safe and walking distance to the central commercial district. The famous Palacio Salvo and Plaza Independencia are a block away. Lots of eateries (Americano Cafe really good), pharmacies, laundry, and convenience stores. The history of revitilzation of this hotel reminded me of the incredible boutique hotels of Queen St W in Toronto (a bit like Drake Hotel with a more family feel). The rooms are not large as it is an older building conversion but offers a comfortable and clean upgrade.
I was hosted for 10 days in this hotel and was a house. As I was with the CIA of an old person, I was very concerned about the location and it was fantastic. The hotel is very close to the Rambla de Pocitos and Punta Carretas, and can walk to the shopping Punta Carretas and the letter. I was studying Spanish, and I even helped with my tasks. Thanks to the dear receptionists. I don't know if it was lucky, but it all worked. breakfast keeps the same heart every day, but it goes beyond a continental. The tour service they recommended was very safe and careful.
Apart from being a great location close to departmental transport and the hotel including the rooms are very clean the staff are extremely friendly and courteous plus they go out of they way to help - This is are second time stying in the hotel and we would highly recommend it
GGuest UserThe criticism should not be used for verbal aggressions, but for improving the establishment, and in my case we bought the package by CVC and that was not exactly what we bought. The hot record of the shower is almost impossible to close it so hot, it burns your fingers, the input bank is really full of alphabet, wines, cakes and similar, there is no space for signing the input sheets. The bathroom has a glass-only bathroom where it is so wet as it is dangerous until it slitters, the towels are fine to use so much.
