The NH Montevideo Columbia hotel is in a perfect location only minutes from the major tourist attractions of Montevideo such as the Plaza Independencia and the Solis Theatre. Set in the old quarter and right on the banks of the river, you couldn’t choose a better location. The riverside is a wonderful place for biking and jogging and the Port Market is close by for dining and bars, while many company headquarters are not far off either, due to the hotel’s downtown location. There are 136 elegant rooms at NH Montevideo Columbia. Many offer spectacular panoramic views over the Rio de la Plata and all come equipped with free Wi-Fi and LCD TVs. There are connecting rooms and family rooms available. Portón Nuevo is our stylish restaurant offering fabulous views over the water and is where we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of options for any taste. Our à-la-carte options for afternoons and evenings feature local and international cuisine, while we also have a modern bar where you can enjoy a light snack and a drink. Enjoy Montevideo’s lovely weather on our 9th floor terrace. For sports enthusiasts, we have a gym and a sauna. There are also 9 meeting rooms for 250 people.

Wow. One of the most ridiculous experiences in over 35 countries and 150 hotel stays in my life. Arrived at the hotel which looks dated from the outside but I was confident, based on the reviews, that the rooms would be decent as I expected. Slow check in process but staff fairly friendly. We got to the room which, no exaggeration, was one of the most dated, smoky, disgusting rooms I’ve been given. Rather than complaining at the end of the stay, I returned to reception and said that the room was horrible and smelt terribly of smoke. I asked if we could be moved to a nicer, newer room. This wasn’t well received but Leonardo (hotel receptionist) said that he would arrange for us to move to a room on the eighth floor. We fetched our things from the first room and waited at reception. After Leonardo had ignored us for a few minutes, I asked again if we were being moved to a better room. To clarify, by better, I was asking simply for a more modern room that did not smell of smoke and that reflected the photos of the hotel online. At this point, he lost his temper and said that we needed to go and sit and wait. I explained to him that we had a reservation later in the evening and that we needed to check into our new room quickly. He behaved aggressively and with a short temper - telling me that I should basically be grateful that he was moving our room! I explained that, as a customer, we pay for a room of a good standard for the price and that he was not doing us a favour! He then accused me of ‘harassing him’ about having a better room! There was no element of ‘harassment’ and only Leonardo speaking in a rude and totally unprofessional way. I could not believe what was happening! At this point, I asked to cancel the room as we were going to stay elsewhere. I asked Leonardo for confirmation that the cancellation would be free and he told me ‘he did not have time to write this confirmation’. I explained that it would take him less than a minute and that we could only leave the hotel if we were sure we would not be charged. He begrudgingly provided Brie after demonstrating a further bad attitude. I am sure that the hotel will reply to this review with a different version of events but, all I can say is, this hotel is seriously dated, in a bad condition, smoky in the room we were given and the attitude of Leonardo was one of the worst and most bizarre I have ever come across. I am also making a formal complaint to the NH Hotel group, whom I expected better of.

Good location, in Punta Carretas, just a few blocs from the ramblas and within walk-in range with restaurants and shopping places. Large rooms, with very good beds. Average breakfast, with few options. The price was very good. The check in experience was not very good, they didn't find the reservation, which was made directly... At the check out, they forgot that we had payed a guarantee of 20% of the stay, and charged the full amount, and had to refund it... Over all very good option in Montevideo.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Montevideo but there are improvements needed. We travel to Uruguay from the US every 1- 2 years to visit my husband's family and have stayed many places. This hotel is beautiful but the rooms were not as comfortable as expected. We wouldn’t stay here again unless improvements were made because comfort is very important when traveling such a long way and staying up to 2 weeks. Pros: The hotel decor is visually beautiful. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. It was nice that some of the staff spoke English. My husband is a native Spanish speaker and it was great that he didn't have to translate the restaurant menu for me. The morning breakfast was very good and the staff there great. The views from the 10th floor hotel bar and DJ were fantastic. Cons: Not worth the price of the upgrade, and not what you would expect for a hotel with hotel with 4+ rating. We asked if an upgrade was an available at check in because we were staying for 11 nights. We were offered a Suite room that was bigger in size and has a small kitchenette. The size of the room was better for us for a long stay but unfortunately the bed was the worst bed we have ever slept in. It was way too soft, no support and the pillows were too soft. I realize of course this is also about preference but we have stayed at many hotels and have never experienced such a horrible bed. We traveled a long way and a good nights rest is always important. The bathroom- I prefer a long sink or his/her countertop when we travel so that we can arrange our skin care, makeup, beauty products etc. This sink was tiny so I had no place to put my toiletries when getting ready. The lighting is too dark in the rooms even with the curtains fully opened. When I was getting ready, I could barely see anything. A dimmer light switch would be much better. It would also be nice if Restaurant Polo Bamba had a rotating menu for dinner options.

This place was perfect in every way. The check-in, the room, the service, and the dining room staff were all wonderful. Our room was clean, the water was hot, and the bed was comfortable. This hotel is ideally located as well. The mall and grocery are within walking distance, and some excellent restaurants are also within walking distance.

The Mercure Montevideo Punta Carretas is sophisticated, with a privileged location in the Uruguayan capital. Air-conditioned rooms with free WIFI and bay or city view options. Firstly, this is a budget hotel, and one should make allowances. However the primary criteria we use is that we should get a good nights sleep, with a hot shower without stepping into a bath. Now here’s what went wrong in room 401 facing the sea for four nights. The double glazed windows do not close properly as the catches have been relocated. Therefore the traffic noise is quite audible. The room is of Hong Kong size, small with a king size bed and one chair. The top sheet on the bed is far too small. If you like rubber pillows, then is the place for you - otherwise, tough luck. There is adequate handing space and drawers. The breakfast is the usual continental style, and yes, it has home-made granola as someone else says. There is the option of hot scrambled eggs, but you’ll need to know this as no-one will tell you. By and large, I’d give it a miss, although it is very handy to the Fresh Market supermarket which is one of the best I have ever seen, and the Punta Carreras shopping mall which houses the El Fogon Restaurant, one of the saving graces to our visit.

BBryce van de LaarWe spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood.
It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything.
The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites.
Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!
NNeal RMy stay at the SORO Montevideo, Curio Collection by Hilton was perfect in every way. From the time the friendly staff at the front desk greeted me at check-in, to the time they said good-bye at check-out, everything was perfect. The room was beautiful and well-appointed and decorated, wi-fi and the fitness center were top-notch, and the breakfast was great (I didn't eat any other meals at the restaurant). The location of the hotel, across the street from the Rambla, easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants, is ideal for tourism and business. At the SORO you get the charm of a boutique hotel with the benefits of the Hilton Honors program. I know that whenever I am in Montevideo, the SORO will be my first choice of where to stay.
This hotel was very disappointing for me and my wife. Looking at the pictures and the previous reviews, I really thought we would stay in a great hotel, but the reality was different. We did the reservation for a standard room, the pictures don't show how small they are. The room that they gave us was on the 2nd floor, and the window was direct to a central air conditioning machine (I suppose it is). It's a big machine, terrible view, but also terrible noise. They turn it off at 6:30pm, and turn it on at 08:30am. If you want to sleep in it is impossible, or if you want to take a nap in the afternoon, impossible too. Besides that there is a door in the room, to the next room, it's obviously closed, but you can hear everything from your neighborhood. The bathroom is ok, towels are good and clean. But when you take a shower the floor gets all wet, even with the box close, it's probably some leak. We stayed for four nights, and in two of then the air conditioning was not working. We called the reception and the answer was that they would have to call a technician, to repair it. They fixed, but in the next day it was broken again. Fortunately the weather was not so cold, and it was possible to leave the window opened, but we we had to deal with the noise coming from outside. We asked to change for a better room as soon as we arrived. But the receptionist said the hotel was full, and that in the next day they would have a free room, in a superior category, but it was necessary to pay the difference to the upgrade. We said that we have the gold benefit from **********, and this update would be for free for us. As soon as we told about the benefit, they tell us that we need to wait for the next day and see if the room would be still available, but, of course, it wasn't free anymore. Although the location of the hotel is good, we definitely wouldn't like to stay there anymore.
GGuest UserOne of the most beautiful hotels I stayed at. It is a centenary Palace, richly decorated and preserved. The restaurant is wonderful! I recommend at least 1 night (preferably the 1st or the last) as the hotel is close to the airport.
GGuest UserAs I checked in last Monday at the Aloft, Tobias Bradley, one of the Front Desk Managers, noticed it was my birthday. From then on, he made my stay, a very special one. When you’re away from home on a special occasion, it could feel very lonely, so, every single detail, was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the rest of the staff, specially, Gustavo, at the restaurant, who always had a warm smile and a kind gesture. In addition, this hotel has a perfect location, in an upscale area at Punta Carretas, practically next to a big shopping mall, surrounded by great gastronomy, and a block away from Rio de la Plata. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such a wonderful experience. I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
GGuest UserThe rooms are comfortable, and although they are not that big, I had plenty of space. The temperature in the room was quite comfortable, so I didn’t even turn the heater on in any day. Breakfast was nice, and the “doce de leite” was incredibly good. The only things that would benefit from improvement would be: restaurant (the food at dinner was not worthy the money at all), availability of cork screw and wine glasses in the room. I wanted to open a wine bottom and the hotel sent someone to open the bottle for me, instead of sending the cork screw…
VValeria PennaThe hotel was very comfortable and the rooms were very comfortable. We had booked with a month in advance, confirmed by phone before arrival, everything came perfect until we arrived and did not let my husband and children come in. I wasn't at the hotel yet, but I had already warned that I who made the reservation was coming a little late. The first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second Then we got the room and it is clear that when we entered there were 3 football players, which had also happened to them, they had found someone in the room. We were very bad as we were 4 in two beds. After a 14-hour trip. But no one succeeded in giving us an explanation or solution
The location is perfect, if you are travelling in and out of Montevideo by bus. And at 50$ per night it is a bargain. Otherwise try and stay somewhere else. The hotel is not a 4* by all means. Noone speaks a word of English (I do speak broken Spanish, still difficult), housekeeping never showed up. I checked out one day early and although I sent an official request from booking and asked at reception, they took the whole amount.
I was hosted for 10 days in this hotel and was a house. As I was with the CIA of an old person, I was very concerned about the location and it was fantastic. The hotel is very close to the Rambla de Pocitos and Punta Carretas, and can walk to the shopping Punta Carretas and the letter. I was studying Spanish, and I even helped with my tasks. Thanks to the dear receptionists. I don't know if it was lucky, but it all worked. breakfast keeps the same heart every day, but it goes beyond a continental. The tour service they recommended was very safe and careful.
