We were now for the second time at the Hotel Schütt. And again we felt very well. You feel the family business entirely. All do with, everyone has his task. Despite the high hotel facilities, the young chef always has time for a nice conversation. In the room you feel very well, that is important for us just after a long walk. Beautifully furnished with a very nice bathroom. I also like the drink self-service on a dishes basis very well ( Each guest performs a list of consumed drinks that is out, and is paid at the end at check out. There is a very rich, Buffet equipped with bio products from the region ( sauce/cheese/marmelade ...) . There is nothing missing. We will come back in any case!

Wir haben in diesem laut Beschreibung Nichtraucher-Hotel eine Suite für eine Nacht gebucht. Geboten bekommen haben wir ein dreckiges (Haare im Bad etc.), schmuddliges Zimmer (Kriterien für eine Suite nicht erfüllt), welches penetrant nach kaltem Rauch und abgestandenem Essen stank. Der Gestank hängt im kompletten Hotel und ist einfach nur widerlich. Der ganze Laden ist heruntergekommen. An einen erholsamen Aufenthalt wäre in dieser Absteige beim besten Willen nicht zu denken gewesen. Wir haben das Zimmer storniert und uns ein besseres Hotel gesucht. Uns wurde der komplette Preis von 164 € berechnet, eine Einigung zu beiderseitiger Zufriedenheit war nicht möglich. Wenn man die Hotelleitung anruft, wird man beschimpft, und die ”Dame” legt einfach auf. So einen schlechten, unfreundlichen ”Service” habe ich noch nie erlebt. Das Hotel ist eine Vollkatastrophe, und ich kann nur raten, da einen großen Bogen drum zu machen.

I loved the location. Not a bad walk from the train station and heheh you are just at the edge of the good stuff- an old German restaurant next door, the Cathedral a block or 2 around the corner. The bar wasn’t as appealing as some as the other Motel Ones I’ve been too- a little more business feeling. But I’ve come to love the color and decor scheme of this chain. Always super quiet and serene.

I stayed here, with my brothers, for 4 nights/5 days to meet up with 2 other brothers and family/friends. We had an excellent stay, made even better by the service of Nina and Marcus who were very, very helpful, friendly and NOTHING was ever a bother, especially Nina. They are an absolute assett to this hotel and I hope the hotel recognise this. Everything else within the hotel, including staff, accomodation and facilities were great. Nice hotel! Friendly staff working hard. The room was good, (home animal room, our dog was with). Delightful snack was ready for the dog in the room. The TV in the room was a little overcast for us. No possibility of connecting or streaming a chromecast to the TV. Nice terrace at the room. Nice garden to walk nicely. Breakfast was great for us. The hotel has a very small number of guests who are not able to take care of their staff during events (marriage, birthday and condolences at the same time). The great advantage for us was that you get an email every evening and can indicate whether you want to clean towels next day or that they have to do your whole room.

Though we weren't expecting our rooms to be in the Kasteel itself, the accommodation in the modern blocks was corporate and dingy and though described as ”deluxe with a balcony” had no views of the ancient pile or anything of particular interest. To be honest, I have stayed in more interesting Travel Lodges in the UK and paid half the price. The whole place oozed mediocrity, from the check-in clerk who volunteered no recommendations on how to experience the Kasteel which was, in effect, sealed off to tourists, to our bathroom which had no natural light or air and a shower situated in the bath. All very disappointing. Dinner in the Old Water Mill was marred by a delay of 25 minutes before we saw a menu and extremely long gaps between courses which we put down to a shortage of kitchen staff or maybe a lack of english menus; both seemed plausible. The food itself was high quality/mid-range though definitely not gourmet or fine-dining. Oddly, Limburg wines were not included on the wine list but a very limited number of bottles from the best promoted vineyard in the region were available by the glass on request. The entremet was literally inedible though I appreciated the free glass of dessert wine I was given in compensation. Service had its faults such as asking us what we wanted to drink before we had been given any kind of drinks/wine list but was generally characterised by a sincere effort to provide attentive service. We opted not to have the breakfast buffet at 23 euros a throw and though the check-out clerk verbally acknowledged we hadn't partaken, somehow he included a line item on the bill ”breakfast excluded” which added 46 euros to the bill (yes, added) which we only discovered as we prepared to drive off. Utter stupidity and a symbolically apt end to our misadventure at Kasteel Vaalsbroek.
