We didn’t book this rather it was arranged by a third party walking company and looking at the other reviews this suggests we were unlucky with the room. They’ve clearly worked hard on the ambiance and design but our room was a very small double although the en suite was ample. We stayed in The Badger’s Sett Our room backed onto a car park and we were awoken very early by rubbish collection lorries. The breakfast was excellent but note their earliest available was 8.30 which is a little late if you have a big day. We left warm clean and well fed so were generally happy.

In the heart of the town, only a short walk away from the main street. The staff all make every effort to accommodate any requests and really make this place what it is. The young lady in charge of dinner each evening was very capable as was Josie who in the morning seemed to manage the breakfast service single handed. All the food was well made, we ate at there on each of our three nights. It was very clear that there is a strong local customer base which is a good sign. Breakfast was also well made. There is a small supplement (£6.95?) if you want to choose from the continental and cooked meals otherwise one or other is included. The room was tight on space but clean and comfortable. Bigger rooms were available. The Wi-Fi is good and worked right at the top of the building. Follow the directions/ instructions sent by the owners as satnavs don't always find the carpark at the rear of the building and the front is not accessible by car. A very friendly, quirky, arty accommodation refreshingly different to the run of the mill chain hotels.

We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and shown to our room. We had everything we needed, slippers, towels, water, tea and coffee and a wonderful comfy bed. We slept really well, in fact best nights sleep we have had for a long time. We stayed in foxes room.

Enough attention to detail to make it value for money... Good and responsive pre-stay experience, particularly around parking and late check in. Well appointed and proportioned bedroom and bathroom. Delicious pancake and berry compote breakfast served by a very friendly lady. Did not mind us being 10 minutes early either. Building not quite my style but nothing they can do about that.

Came to stay for 3 nights to attend an event. Great communication beforehand with messages advising us about parking and optional upgrading of breakfast to full English. Easy to find with good parking out back, with reasonable parking rates. Greeted by friendly manager and explained how to work the back door which can stick. Key however was attached to a large wooden panel making it not the most convieneinet thing to carry around. Room was stunning on entrance and had clearly been well decorated. However on closer inspection the room was really rather dusty and the quirky decor was in serious need of a dust, salt lamps in the room being very grubby. Bathroom very tired and in desperate need of updating as this is a stark contrast for the rest of the room. At night the room was stifling hot and only one small window to be opened, did not sleep. In addition the staff in the pub next door smoke directly below this window and strong whafts of cigarette smoke drift through. We looked for a desk fan but one wasn't included in the room. Breakfast was included in the booking but we opted to upgrade breakfast for both of us for both days, even if £10 each a day was a little steep. Service was nice and polite and breakfast clearly freshly cooked. However I did not think £10 each was value for money. Small portions and very average meal. We opted to go to the Wetherspoons the next morning and frankly got a better value for money, and enjoyable cooked breakfast for half the cost. We also found our room wasn't cleaned whilst we were out, when we asked about this its apparently due to covid restrictions. However we have stayed in other hotels during covid and this was not an issue. Gave the sense of lack of professionalism. Overall you can see alot of work has gone into this place but there are little things that just let it down. Also including the full English in the breakfasts you include with the booking would be good, this is one of the only establishments that ask you to pay extra for a cooked breakfast when they advertise 'Breakfast Included' on the booking.

We stayed here for 1 night as we were going to the Theatre. Lovely little Boutique B&B. Quirky and beautifully decorated. We stayed in the Otter Room. Clean comfortable rooms. Great breakfast. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Central. Would Highly recommend.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night in the room named "Owl's Roost" before setting off on the Offa's Dyke trail. We were very impressed with the hospitality of the staff in particular and are not surprised at all to know that they won 4 in a Bed. Overall 5 stars just because the staff were fantastic, although there were a few downsides to the room that I'll list here in case they are dealbreakers for anyone. --- Room Itself: Each of the 8 rooms have a different woodland animal theme and are styled different. This review is for the Owl's Roost, which was a double bedroom. + A comfy and good sized room, particularly the restroom was a good size + The decor was very cute and kitsch. We definitely enjoyed it. + The bed and pillows were decently comfy + You get provided with fresh towels, slippers, eye mask, and earplugs + Shampoo, conditioner, and shower/bath gel provided + Both bath and shower were available + A beauty skylight above the bed + Complementary teas/coffees to make in room with a kettle - There was spotty reception for the TV, the signal was not great and kept jittering. The TV was effectively unusable - Walls are pretty thin, earplugs definitely useful The above 2 minuses aren't actually that big of a deal for us, the only thing that did actually concern us was that the room itself had no window or anything besides the skylight. They did provide us with a fan, but even with the fan ya'll it got HOT in there. We didn't really have an option to have fresh air and there was no AC or anything to simulate airflow. At the end, unfortunately neither of us had a great night's sleep. We still would definitely come back again just because of the service, but hindsight being 20/20 we would avoid the Owl''s Roost and go for a room that had a window that can open to get some airflow in. I can see this being important, especially in the middle of Summer. --- Customer Service: The main reason why, despite the tough night's sleep it still gets 5 stars from me and also has my loyalty to come back. My husband and I were planning to set off really early in the morning before the complementary breakfast starts at 8:30 AM. We told our host this and said that we'll probably have to skip breakfast because we are leaving before the kitchen opens. Rather than just saying "OK" and leaving it at that which is what most places would do, he said that he was going to get the kitchen to do our breakfast tonight with goodies that will last in the room through the night for us to eat in the morning. Ya'll we got a takeaway bag delivery in the evening beforehand with a delicious Pan Au Chocolat, Flapjack, and little jars of Strawberry Jam. We also got some takeaway cups for us to make ourselves coffees/teas in the morning to take with us. My husband and I were both thoroughly impressed with the kind hospitality we were shown and how the staff could've easily gotten away with letting us go without breakfast without any extra effort on their part.
