Mad aboiut Monaghan !! What a fabulous place to stay in Monaghan. This house was such a surprise and such a treasure trove with lots of lovely features, locally made art pieces and collectibles from as far away as New Zealand. A number of paintings and framed poems from Monaghan artists were also on display adding to the ecletic mix and beautiful surroundings of the house. The best thing of all about staying here was the host. Elizabeth was such a fabulos host and really embodies all things Monaghan. Her t-shirt even reflected that. The best ambassador that Monaghan has. All of the food served for what was an exceptional breakfast was locally produced in Monaghan. Rooms were very comfortable, warm and inviting. And such good value too. Would recommend Lynster House very highly. A great place to stay.

Excellent accommodation, very comfortable beds, great shower and breakfast was excellent too. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Our host was very helpful and makes delicious brown bread, great atmosphere here! Thank you very much.

Everything about my getaway was perfect: from the quaint town of Monaghan, to the beautiful Lynster House, with its beautiful decor, gorgeous garden, amazingly comfortable bed, and wonderful owner and hostess, Elizabeth, who is warm and welcoming, and a terrific cook! A must-visit for anyone coming to Ireland.

We spend a lovely few days at Lynster house while attending Monaghan Blues festival 2024. It was our first visit to Liz’s beautiful guest house and it didn’t disappoint. She is a great host offering an array of information on every topic but particularly Monaghan and its music scene. The house was full of artists playing at the festival and music lovers attending. There was a lovely, easy, familiar atmosphere all weekend with lots of laughter and great conversations had by all. Breakfast was plentiful to suit all dietary requirements. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days and shall return. I highly recommend beautiful guest house and its host who is “mad about Monaghan”.

Myself and my wife enjoyed our stay at Lynster House immensely. We arrived on the Saturday afternoon for the Harvest Blues festival and were immediately invited by Elizabeth, the guest house owner to join her in town to watch the bands. She made us feel like a friend which was great. The property itself was superb, beautiful artwork throughout the house was a highlight plus some amazing black and white photographs of some of the many famous rock and blues musicians who have performed in Monaghan over the years. The breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay, my wife loved the ' posh porridge ' and the full Irish fried breakfast was beautifully prepared. We slept soundly in our room , the bed was really comfortable and the house was really quiet at night despite the number of guests staying for the festival. Bathroom facilities were very classy just like the rest of the property. I would advise anyone looking for a weekend stay in a beautiful house with a friendly owner to choose Lynster House. We will definitely be back again.

Before I start let me say I am not in the habit of besmirching anyone's livelihood or reputation, but in this case the host needs to be called out. My wife and I were supposed to be celebrating our wedding anniversary after what was a very difficult year for us. But instead this woman's blatant disregard for her guests, her complete unprofessionalism, her lack of empathy and her lack of basic knowledge of hospitality (like actually being present to meet your guests rather than being in a pub) ruined our weekend. Firstly this place is ridiculously overpriced for what it is..a bog standard bed & breakfast. €175 per night and MILES away from Monaghan town. Sure, the house is nice but far too expensive. We wanted to visit Monaghan for the annual blues festival and I decided (foolishly) to book this place based on the positive reviews. I contacted the host by phone who told me not to worry about transport to and from the town as she would arrange all that for us. She even said she had an "arrangement" with a local taxi. We made our way to Monaghan on the Saturday and after advising the host of our arrival time was surprised to get a message back saying she was in a pub in the town!! I assumed that by the time we arrived she would have been back to greet us but sure enough, the house was completely empty when we arrived. The front door was unlocked so we just walked into the house! We had booked a "Super king ensuite" room with breakfast (of which I can provide confirmation) and the host told us which room was ours. The room we were given was NOT a super king ensuite, but a very pokey triple room with separate bathroom in the hallway. We knew there was nothing else available in the town for that weekend. We waited for almost an hour for the host to come back but she didn't. In that time I sent 2 text messages asking about transport to the town (remember she said she would arrange this) and a message asking about breakfast times. No reply. There was no information about this at the house itself. I then tried to call her twice, first time the call terminated after 3 rings, second time it went to voicemail. I then tried 3 local taxis who all told me there would be a wait of approximately 90 minutes! At that stage we had enough and made the decision to leave. I sent her another text to say how disappointed and dissatisfied we were and that we were leaving. Less than 30 seconds later she rang back and I could hear she was clearly intoxicated. She asked what the problem was and when I told her the response I got was "I got no messages or calls from you. You know what, just forget the whole thing" We couldn't find alternative accommodation for the Saturday and as we live over 2 hours from Monaghan going home wasn't an option, so we were forced to book a room in another town and we ended up missing the festival on Saturday. We did manage to get a cancellation at a lovely hotel in the town for the Sunday night so we came back. After chatting with a
