The Lion was my home and where I was brought up from 1970-77 as my parents ran this hotel back then. I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the room I had considering it was apparently the best room in the hotel. Hadn’t seen a hoover in a while, hair everywhere. Cobwebs in both the bedroom and bathroom. A long hair in the sink and hairs around the toilet bowl. The floor in there needed a thorough deep clean. Mould on both windows and on all curtains. Water took forever to become slightly warm, but I’d also overheard that from other guests. Friendly staff and a good breakfast let down by poor cleanliness. Be aware also that for some strange reason the hotel doesn’t open until 3pm,so you’ll need to contact them if you require to check in sooner. It was the hub of the town back in the 70s and everyone went there, especially The Tap bar,but unfortunately has been closed for some time now. I do sympathise with the current tenants as they’re dictated to by the owner,so money is a big issue, but it certainly does need some money spending on it. All in all it’s a shame it’s got to this, just hope it springs back.
