Gistola Hotel Mestia

Mestia|1.93km from city centre
Mestia is a small town which is very atmospheric. With the stone towers all around you, against the backdrop of towering snow clad mountains, the town is an incredible place to be. Gistola hotel appears to be the biggest hotel in town. We found it to be modern, very comfortable and nice for our stay. Positives: 1. Comfortable and new hotel 2. Very clean rooms and new linen 3. Nice views from the river facing / front side rooms 4. Superb Manager Ms. Maya and some excellent Front Office staff and support staff (Mr. Tedo) Areas of improvement: 1. Restaurant staff was clearly new and lacked training. Inconsistent replies when asked for an 'omlette'. One day we got it easily, another day the waitress said it would be chargeable. When I asked to be spoken to the Manager, she quietly organized for it. 2. Breakfast menu was mostly the same for all the 3 days we were there Clearly there is scope for an improved menu which changes everyday. I must mention some amazing service given by Mr. Tedo. We had a small accident during our hike when my wife fell down and twisted her knee. We had to visit the local hospital and the hotel graciously sent us in their van, which waited for us all the while when my wife was getting medical attention. Mr. Tedo appeared out of his own at the hospital and helped us. Language can be a big challenge and his presence was helpful and reassuring. One of the days, there was an internet outage, again Mr. Tedo provided my wife with a free sim card with unlimited internet. Apart from being very helpful with information on hikes etc., these 2 acts by Mr. Tedo were exemplary. I think the hotel is building a swimming pool and a Sun deck. They would be welcome additions. With right training to their restaurant staff and some improvement in breakfast menu, they have the potential to become a superb place. I would rate them VERY GOOD and will happily stay there again!
