I made a reservation on Thursday, to check in Friday and out on Sunday. When I arrived on Friday night, I was told by the front desk associate my reservation had been cancelled because he “had a large group show up”. He told me he tried to call me, and I informed him I received no calls. He used the front desk phone to try to call my number, and it did not go through. He then tried to call his own personal number, which also did not go through, indicating a problem with the hotel phone. The resolution offered, in place of the king room I booked, was a double queen room for a higher price. I informed him this was acceptable. And he agreed to match the previous rate minus $5. I told him I would reach out to the manager. My experience with issues of double bookings and unavailable rooms on a reservation is that you offer the lowest tier rate possible as compensation for the issue, and you take responsibility for the error. When I contacted the manager after checkout asking what can be done, he informed me they “were unable to get ahold” of me and since I “didn’t confirm the reservation” they cancelled it. Despite having an email which says, word for word, “your reservation is confirmed”. Further, he tried to tell me that I was “given an upgrade at an even lower rate” than I booked. I explained that two queens beds in place of the king bed I reserved is not an upgrade. That’s a smaller bed for me, degraded from what I reserved. So in summary: this hotel cancelled my confirmed reservation for a walk-in, didn’t notify me, gave me a smaller bed which they called an upgrade, and thought that $5 off was sufficient. They didn’t respond to my latest email yet, if they do. All this doesn’t even mention things like the cracked and leaking shower, the breakfast with no coffee or milk, etc. The pool/hot tub was nice. I would recommend spending the extra $20 a night and go to the Hampton Inn, it’s just not worth the headache here. I know I won’t be back. And I’m sure I’ll get the same copy and pasted response that all the 1 and 2 reviews get.
