The location of the hotel near the river is amazing. The staff is very cool and efficient. Rooms were very clean and the breakfast is good.

Our room was on 1st floor. There was not an elevator for our heavy luggage. There was no one from the hotel to help us. There was no drinkable water in the room. We had to buy water from the bar. The room was very small. The remote to operate room temperature was very confusing. No wake-up service. Ladies room in lobby had no toilet paper.

Lovely hotel overlooking the river and built on top of an old ruined home, which is part of the querky attraction. Loved our stay and the room. Hotel staff friendly and a lovely little bar outside overlooking the river. Mertola nice enough but 1 day covers it

We spent four nights in this hotel during our birding tour. Our room was clean and well-maintained, the bed was comfortable, with enough good pillows to keep my happy, and there was wifi. However, the room was small, and there were only two very small bed stands and one small, narrow table on which we could put things. There were some drawers in the closet, but only a few coat hangers which were insufficient for two people spending four nights. We had to ask three times before we were given some additional ones. The bathroom was our biggest problem. For some reason, we were given a handicapped room, which we didn't need. The toilet was high enough that my feet could barely reach the floor. The sink was not set in a counter, so there was no place to put our toilet articles, and we had to use the plastic seat which was intended to be used in the shower for a shelf. The shower was the worst part. The walls could be folded and were not securely fastened to the base, so if you leaned on them, they could collapse, and they leaked water onto the floor outside. The stall was small enough that while washing, you could inadvertently hit the faucet handle and turn the water off. I can't say I ever enjoyed a shower during our stay. On the plus side, there was a very nice breakfast buffet which was served in an adjoining building.

Nice rooms, excellent service, quiet guests and good food available onsite. Other highlights were the pontoon boat ride for only 15 euros and the small archaeology museum on the lower level. The only suggestion I would make is to put safes in the room.

This is a fascinating location built over the excavations of a house from well more than 700 years ago. There are views of this from inside the hotel and options to get closer, though all is protected by plexiglass barriers. There is an interesting library area near the reception that's well worth checking out. They allow you to take books to your room. Please remember to return them. The rooms - the first room was so small the door wouldn't open past halfway without being stopped by the bed. There was also an electric panel next to the bed that buzzed non-stop all night long. The second room was much better. It was larger and the electric panel was far from the bed. The biggest drawback is, and apparently this is true of some other rooms, the shower floor has a surface that could be well used as an artificial ice skating rink. The most slippery surface I have ever encountered. They have non-slip mats at the reception, not in the rooms! Ask for one before you find out how much you wish you had. When I told them about how slippery it was they eventually responded by saying they had installed non-slip surface in the showers. One wonders at their definition of non-slip, or whether they had been told that but had not themselves given it a try out. Perhaps the non-slip part was next to the floor instead of where you stand?

This was one of our favorite hotels during a month-long tour of Portugal. We paid extra for a River view and were glad we did. The room was small but had a balcony where we could sit with a glass of wine and watch the swallows in the evening. It is simple and sleek, and everything works. It is also worth paying the supplement for the excellent breakfast buffet. Many biking tour groups stay here but the excellent management sees to everyone’s needs and we could all coexist harmoniously. The staff are very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Mértola is lovely and we were glad we liked the hotel enough to stay another night.

Hotel is conveniently located just off the centre of Mértola, with outdoors parking on the street. A small swimming pool at the lower level helps to cool down in hot summer days. Rooms are modern, with extra beds. Breakfast is average. However the stay was ruined by cockroaches in the bathroom and hallways of the lower floor when we stayed there in July 2019.

We spent one night in the hotel. The hotel is located on the edge of the old town right on the river. It has historical excavations in the basement with items on display. That's the reason of the name of the hotel. We had a large room with a view of the river and the opposite side. The hotel made a clean and well kept impression. Breakfast was in the building next door. The selection was sufficient, but not very large. The only drawback to the hotel is that it has no elevator. With luggage it is therefore a bit cumbersome.
