Sean at the front desk started my day in a great way! He started with a sincere compliment about liking my glasses and we chatted for about 3 or 4 mins. It is so nice to have friendly people at front. I stay here at least 5-6 times a year! Always going back. Even my co-worker said there is a new Hampton closer to where i need to be but I want my points and I always stay here because of the people. Thank u Marriott Merrillville for being the customer friendly hotel on which I can count!

I travel a LOT for work, so I know a thing or two about hotel staff. The staff here is the best I've ever met. We stayed here for a baseball tournament. Lisa at the front desk worked literal miracles for us upon checking in, getting us a room at 8:30 in the morning on the first day of our stay and working to get our stay extended. Riley was a champ the rest of the week, allowing our team to take over the lobby to setup a buffet and watch a movie on the lobby TV. They bent over backwards to make our stay PERFECT. The hotel staff were honorary members of our baseball team this week, asking for status updates after each game and cheering us on when we kept winning. They were the best! Thanks so much!

I really had no big issues, it was clean, could use a little touch up paint on the inside of the door frame to the bathroom but that's not a big deal. I did have to turn up the refrigerator to cool my drinks and when i woke up there was water on the floor. again not a big deal, the also had new refrigerator down stairs so they mat be in the middle of upgrading them. the a/c worked great. The only thing that was kinda bad was the remote did not work on the TV but I was so tired I just went to sleep. (room 201) I would stay there again.

This place has potential. But for the price I can’t really complain. Plus, it helps that the bed is actually really comfortable!

There is so much potential with this hotel but we were left disappointed. The front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. When we got to our room, we found that they had given us an accessible room which we do not need. This is the second time a Choice property has done this. Third floor. First night the hallway had a very strong incense smell. Day two, smelled strongly of *********. The Room: Fairly clean but has an awkward layout. Bathroom door opens out and you can't get to the main door without having the bathroom door closed. The bed was sloppily made and has some type of metal bars that stick out the sides under the bed skirt that are just waiting to catch your ankles getting in or out of bed. The mattress seemed like it was beyond its useful life. They are trying to get more use with a cheap topper. Furniture is decent except table that looks like a dog used the corner as a chew toy. The bathroom: Tiles are loose and click as you walk across the floor. You can actually see them move. The stainless steel kleenex holder is rusty and just plain nasty. Handlebar on the wall is loose. Very little water pressure in shower and water trickles down to the side of the tub. Since the shower head is off center for whatever reason, all that water runs out on the bathroom floor. The water temp in the shower is inconsistent and will quickly scold you then immediately freeze you. It's worthy to note that maintenance did install a new shower head which seemed to have fixed the pressure/water running out problem. We asked for room service to replace the towels that needed to be used to clean up all the water. They never showed up.

I was welcomed as an IHG Rewards member but my special request for the floor I requested was not honored. Some of the front desk agents wore their name badges and some did not which lacked consistency and professionalism. I did like that the hotel policies were prominently posted at the front desk and in the rooms, including its Green Policy where towels and bed linens are not replaced every day unless more frequency is requested. Other pluses are the location of the hotel is near every kind of store and restaurant imaginable along Hwy 30 and parking is free. You can check out kitchen cookware including large crockpots, board games and other items usable for an extended stay. There are barbecue grills for guests outside on the backyard patio but the front desk agent on duty didn't know where the grill utensils were. I was annoyed that my request for a third floor room was not honored even though the hotel was not full. When we got to our second floor room, the TV was running which surprised me because the hotel has a green conservation policy that asks guests to turn off all electronics when leaving the room. Our room was pretty clean except for the few pieces of Chex cereal on one of the desk chairs and below on the floor. The bed in our studio suite was not situated in the middle of the wall so one side was almost against one wall. For that reason, I would not recommend a studio suite for two people. Also there was no ”Do Not Disturb” magnet in our room so I had to go down to the front desk to get one and put outside our door. While at the front desk, I mentioned the running TV to the front desk agent who explained that was how housekeeping made sure your TV was working. I think the housekeeper was watching TV while eating Chex cereal for breakfast. The full refrigerator with icemaker was a nice touch until the plumbing that runs the water pipe from the wall to the ice maker has to make some type of loud adjustment every several hours which woke us up at 4 a.m. None of the above hiccups would have kept me from returning to this CS but I will tell you what did. At about 5:20 PM and while we were taking an afternoon nap, we woke up to loud knocks from someone announcing ”Housekeeping”. I got up, looked through the peephole and saw a black woman with red or orange streaked hair or wig in the hotel uniform so I yelled through the door and told her we were not checking out until the next day. She apologized and said the front desk did not tell her that. I found her to be suspicious because: (1) Even if she thought we were checking out that day, it was after 5pm and checkout is at noon. What hotel waits until 5 hours AFTER checkout time to see if a room needs cleaning?; (2) We did not request housekeeping; and (3) The 'Do Not Disturb' placard was clearly posted on our door where she could see it. Her behavior disturbed me because it reminded me of when I was a past victim of a hotel room burglary (not this hotel) where hotel employees would fi
