El Capitan Hotel, Part of Jdv by Hyatt

Great stay. Everything wonderful except restaurant. Food and service was lacking. Coffee shop was good though. Will stay there again for sure. But will eat somewhere else.

This hotel is beautiful, clean, and has friendly staff. I like that there are a couple of attached dining options. One notably bad thing during my stay was the noise level. They provided a pair of earplugs (just one pair even though it was a reservation for two), and I quickly learned why: there's a club or some kind of nightlife venue nearby which has music that you can hear loud and clear all through the night. Not to mention the train that goes by in the wee hours of the morning. I was awakened a lot each night. Besides that, you can hear a conversation in the next room as though the other guests are right at your bedside. I liked staying here, but it wasn't the easiest to get a good night's sleep. The other complaint is that there's no microwave in the room.

Valet parking was a plus & the bed was amazingly comfortable. The staff was very accommodating & polite.

Stayed there for the Hincapie Fondo and it was excellent , clean, smelled good, very comfortable staff was friendly. Food at the cafe was decent if not expensive for Merced, and coffee was a little weak. Place has been remodeled very. Nice and room makes good use of space. Room was quiet and bed comfy. I realize the price was higher than normal due to the event which was ok,but do feel at that price valet should have been tossed in, especially since their wasn’t any available hotel parking. A late checkout also would be great for those of us a long drive back home and would like a shower, even for a nominal fee. Last quibbles, if you do another event, the staff should have educated or maybe a flyer on event times since you were listed as a host hotel. We asked about breakfast at the desk and were directed to hit the restaurant or cafe. After I spent $31 dollars for 2 coffee , 2 bagel, and a banana, we come out to find there was included food in the courtyard for the event for guest, which actually was better than the cafe food. I don’t think it was hard to tell we were in bike clothes but also that question could have been asked…A flyer for people attending the event with that info at check in along with any other cool things going on would have been very helpful. Otherwise i would stay and recommend it for anyone in the area.

El Capitan Hotel is the nicest place in Merced. The onsite dinning is a plus. They offer valet parking. Great staff. Super clean rooms.

In my opinion this hotel is Merced's finest. It is beautifully decorated and conveniently located. The rooms are very clean, and majority of the staff was very nice. I found the female desk staff to be unfriendly and not very helpful. However, the male staff members were extremely helpful and had a great attitude. The Seabird restaurant is excellent and the cafe off the lobby is very convenient.

I never write hotel reviews and stay in too many of them for work. This place is fantastic and I hope to be back soon Thanks!

My daughter attends UC Merced and we’ve stayed at several hotels in the area. This is my first time staying at El Capitan and it is going to be my go-to from here on out. I loved it. It was clean and comfortable and everyone was really nice. The decor in our room was beautiful, to the point that I took pictures to show family. We ate dinner next door at The Mainzer and then breakfast at Rainbird (downstairs in the hotel) and I was incredibly impressed with both prices and quality (all locally sourced.) Super adorable co-op art gallery in the same block (the Mac) and saw a community theater production at the same location. The show was an incredible community theater production. I will definitely choose El Capitan on all future stays. Valet parking was super convenient and easy.
