Hotel del Almirante

Friendly, personal, family run small hotel, not a chain. Rooms in main historic house and separate rooms around garden courtyard/swimming pool. Rooms are basic ie no fridge, kettle, balcony but are spotlessly clean and air con/fan is fab. Rooms serviced daily.Breakfast cereal fruit bread/pastries cold meats, nothing hot but didn’t bother us. Great view from breakfast room.all public areas very welcoming, loads of artefacts etc from Collingwood links in main building. Owner gives a free tour weekly in off season I believe.staff are great and remember your room No from start. Hotel gets return guests coming for years and years. Location ideal midway between Mao and Es Castell. Bus stop in roundabout 5 mins from hotel. €1.75 either way. Handy if don’t want to walk too far in heat. Lovely places to eat in both. Minorca seems to welcome British tourists with open arms. 1 hour ferry trip in Mahon harbour recommended.

Things to know (on the negative):- The rooms are very basic unless you've upgraded and we don't know how you'd do that other than booking direct with the hotel but the website seems to be all in Spanish so good luck with that if you can't speak Spanish although friends that we made while we were there have booked direct with the hotel so we need to find out how they've done it. We booked through Tui and there were no room options on the website so we got the basic room. It was ok, no balcony or patio, no view (other than looking into bushes) and no extras like a bottle of water in the bedroom (which would have been good for brushing teeth etc), The room did have air conditioning and a fan which really helped. After talking to people it seemed some people got rooms with a better view but it appeared to be very hit and miss. We booked half board and while the continental breakfast was ok, very much the same every day and not a great deal of choice, the evening meals were, to be honest, pretty awful. The restaurant doesn't make any effort to try not to look like a canteen, even in the evenings and, since not many people were half board (while we were there) it was absolutely soulless. Even a little tea light on the table in the evening would have helped. We learnt that most returning guest just go B&B. Positive:- However, we've booked to go back again next year so that tells you that we liked it but we've booked B&B as there are so many lovely cafes and restaurants in Mahon and Es Castell, both within 15 minutes walk or a 6 minute taxi ride and both really pretty and interesting. We met loads of lovely people, mainly couples who have come back year after year, which tells you something, and who needs evening entertainment when you can sit and spend the evening drinking and chatting to like minded people? We've spent years going on 5* all inclusive hotel holidays which have so often turned out to be really disappointing. Big, flashy, impersonal hotels with loads of swimming pools that are so cold no-one is in them and all inclusive drinks that taste of nothing. We decided to go different this year and from now on we will.

I booked this holiday for a quiet break for me and my wife when I showed her the holiday on the TUI app she wasn’t too impressed but by the time the holiday was over that changed the grounds are immaculate the staff are second to none the pool is good and the views are great it’s only a small hotel but is so friendly the atmosphere with staff and guests was fantastic In fact the only negative was no fridge in the room the room itself was plenty big enough and air conditioned The pictures on the app really don’t do it justice

Fabulous 7 night stay! Needless to say rebooked for next year. Fabulous service throughout, spotless and extremely comfortable. Perfect location for walks out to es castell and mahon.

Lovely Getaway Birthday/Wedding Anniversary/Fathers Day treat Set in own grounds, private and very beautiful. Halfway between Es Castell & Mahon, we were able to bus everywhere. Taxi late at night. Almirante has lots of English entwined history. Staff excellent. We would both struggle to say of a better ‘all round’ holiday.

I have to support all the positive reviews about this hotel. The hotel is unique and should be viewed that way. We were there in Sept with Kevin and others and found the clientele exceptional. This is a hotel not suited families which is obvious to most. For the team at the hotel, you are doing a great.job and we all love you and the hotel. We are returning twice next year for a relaxing and great holiday. Thank you.
