What a mess! We arrived with 2 suitcases as we were traveling to a wedding and guess what...no dresser, just 2 hangers in an open small closet, and no room to put down the suitcases. On top of that, we had to refrigerate a special medicine and there was no refrigerator (not a real problem) but the fridge we used in the office was ok, but the office closed every day at 7pm?? That was help at all. We are both seasoned and global travelers, had never left a hotel due to its poor conditions, but after conversing with some local townspeople who told us that the reputation of the Seagull was diminishing, we decided to leave after one terrible and uncomfortable night (we had a 2 day reservation). Bathroom had spider webs, the bedroom rug was stained, and the hotel property was a mess. We tried to reason with Scott in the office for any kind of a refund on the remaining day (he said he would ask the owner) but NOTHING! We run our own rental property on the eastcoast and know that if someone is unhappy, we fix it! No questions asked! Seagull could have made some sort of a gesture but decided to be greedy. Stay away is our recommendation.

Although the innkeepers are extremely nice and friendly, and the overall location is wonderful, our experience in the "Shed" was terrible. The shed is a separate, very small structure next to the house. Of course the buildings are historic and therefore old, but we never expected the room to be in such bad shape: intensely musty, dirty stained carpet, bugs, saggy bed, and absolutely no ventilation. The Shed was very, very musty and stinky--and yet all the windows were permanently bolted shut. (Is it even legal to nail windows shut?) We had to leave the door open to try to air the room out whenever we entered, but the musty, mildew type smell was pervasive and constant. To say it was gross is an understatement. There was even some mildew on the shells on the wall of the bathroom. It was also disgusting that there were bugs all over the place--especially in corners of the room and the bathroom. Initially I thought they were rat droppings, but think they were pill bugs and spiders. They didn't even clean corners of the room before arrival--so dirt and bugs were already there, and then more came during our stay. The carpet was so old and stained and didn't even lie flat. They put floppy throw rugs over parts of the carpet--I guess to try to hide it. I tried not to walk on it bare footed because it gave me the creeps. But it was the terrible smell that made it almost impossible to be in the room for any time. Unfortunately, even the bed was quite saggy! It is very soft and you dip into it (we are normal size humans)...and the only two pillows given weren't great. So sleeping wasn't easy with the sagging, the bugs, and the smell. It is sad and unacceptable that the owners are ignoring the state of this room. In our opinion, the Shed is unfit for guests. We were totally creeped out and almost left early, but we wanted to enjoy the beauty of Mendocino. I think that some of the other rooms in the house have been upgraded/updated, but the Shed is in desperate need of attention, fumigation, new carpet & cleaning. The breakfast was OK, but mostly a large pastry (or similar) and coffee, and a tiny juice. They give about a tablespoon of yogurt (literally) and a bit of cut fruit. But this is hardly the kind of breakfast we've gotten at other B&B's and they only have certain rigid time slots for getting your food. The front garden is pretty, but the back patio and sides are also in need of serious maintenance--an arbor was falling over, the plastic tables and chairs were dirty and had cobwebs, and there was junk lying around. Again, the innkeepers are very kind, and perhaps some of the other rooms are worthy of a visit, but stay clear of the Shed until they fix these issues.

nice room, a former "apartment" does not have a refrigerator, a major negative for me. but everything else was great. offers breakfast, great if you like sugar, but will make accommodations for special dietary needs. what you are buying here is the location, next to and behind the fire station, within short walking distance to the beach itself. restaurants are nearby. everything is convenient. groceries just a couple of blocks away. new owners are difficult to contact, messages and website requests are sometimes ignored. i've been trying to make a reservation for three days, they don't answer their web requests or phone messages! nice digs, but "new" ownership needs to hire someone to take reservations and to be a reliable contact.

We loved staying aat the Sea Gull Inn. Ian and Kim were very accomodating and friendly. The location was great, the section we stayed in was off from the main house and perfect. The location was right next to the trail of beautiful lush greenery that takes you right to the beach. The best part was the incredibly delicious homemade and fresh breakfasts! I was so impressed with not only the yumminess but the flowers and arrangement of it all delivered to our door. We will definitely be back!

We recently stayed here for 3 nights. The location is very convenient. The Innkeeper staff were cordial and accommodating. There is free WiFi and daily maid service. Breakfast was always interesting and delivered to the room. The garden areas are lovely. There are tables and chairs and lights strung in the trees. We also appreciated the staff's recommendations for nearby redwoods and wine tasting on highway 128. If there is any negative it is that the building is historical and old. The rooms are small. We stayed in the Sea Urchin room, one of the smaller rooms. There are several slightly larger rooms and some with views of the water.

Just stayed here for two nights, our family of three inc DD who is a grad student. We stayed in the Geranium Room. The property is historic (built late 19th century, was previously a doctor's house and probably his clinic as well). But it is well maintained, with a beautiful garden. The beds were comfortable, the room was very clean and spacious, and town gets very quiet in the evening and early morning. Breakfast was muffins the first morning, and yogurt parfaits the second. Enjoyed our stay, and Mendocino, greatly, and would definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to return.

Our 2nd of 10 destinations on a long road trip and I was sad to have to move on! We had a very warm welcome and our room was super comfy. Our needs were really catered for and the homemade gluten free breakfasts (muffins were top drawer!) were delicious. Take the headland walk and soak in the amazing views. I highly recommend staying at the Seagull Inn.

The Seagull Inn gave us a great place to perch for a couple day exploration of Mendocino. Just steps from the town and from the great headland trail with access to the beach or just views. We loved sitting on the porch. We chose the seagull for the location and relatively good price for the area, and it delivered. The room itself was fine but lacked some comfort. We like to read and relax in the room and had some trouble with that. The two chairs in the room were uncomfortable and one was broken. The bed had no headboard so retreating to bed to read was uncomfortable…the window sill dug into one’s back. As stated elsewhere the bathroom is quite small…but it’s a historic building so no complaints about that. The breakfast was a real disappointment, a bad but huge muffin accompanied a little cup of fruit and a bizarre tablespoon of yogurt. There was no way to make coffee in the room so the breakfast arrival time of 8-9 was really late. We quickly gave up on breakfast and and began getting coffee and food at some nice establishments in town. I think seagull would do as well to skip breakfast service and offer coffee and (better) muffins in the office area for those who want them. All in all I might stay again for location and price, but I wasn’t wowed.
