Burt's Hotel

Spent 2 nights here and it was an absolute joy. Lovely and clean. Staff were very nice and friendly. Had a meal in the restaurant on the first night and it was beautiful, I had boeuf bourguignon and my husband had venison both were cooked to perfection. The breakfasts were lovely and good not having to serve yourself. It was lovely to be pampered. Enjoyed sitting out in the garden having a quiet drink soaking up the sun. . Couldn't fault it at all and will definitely be back if we are in the area again. It was right in the centre of Melrose and within walking distance of the Abbey and other attractions. Having private car parking also was very handy too
George and Abbotsford

A walking holiday turned to a nightmare when my wife was taken acutely ill and ending up in hospital, first in Melrose and later in Edinburgh. I needed a place to stay and happened on the G and A.On relating my tale to Dawn she ordered me to sit down, brought me a cup of tea and biscuits, said of course there was a room and to stay as long as needed. It was such a relief to have matters settled so easily and with such sympathy. I kept them updated on my wife's progress and eventual discharge from hospital. Both she and Graham made a really difficult time that much easier. Both of us will always be so grateful for all they did, way beyond the call of duty and at a time that due to Covid cannot have been easy for themselves
The Townhouse Hotel

Very impressed with our short stay at the Townhouse - super-spacious room with elegant decor (by local interior designer), ample comfortable seating, very comfortable bed and plenty electrical sockets for charging phones etc. Super-quiet which we found surprising as it overlooked the town square. The shower room was also spacious and immaculately clean and well-lit ( not always a given...) with plenty surfaces for parking toiletries. The staff were very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. Both evening meal and breakfast were excellent and parking was available at Burt's hotel opposite run by the same management. Lots to see in the area- will return for a longer visit.
The Waverley Castle Hotel

The good. The hotel is fabulously sited in rural surroundings next to a salmon river where otters can be found. Melrose itself is a twenty minute stroll away and in the other direction is Tweedbank railway station again twenty minutes stroll away where you can take a train to Edinburgh or Galashiels 3 miles away. The breakfast was over stood waiting to be served and consequently dried up but the evening meals were great, if only there had been enough staff to serve the meals, service was appallingly slow. (All the staff in the hotel were great), and the rooms were clean, Now the worst bits. The hotel was cold wherever you went, very few radiators that were turned off and never got put on, you shivered in the entertainment room and you couldn't even use the games/lounge it was so cold, in the bedroom was an electric radiator with no instructions how to switch it on, the bathrooms were small with no windows, and the windows in the rooms were single glazed and misted up each morning. The entertainment was at best average but on one night there was none and only a quiz on the other (we stayed 6 days). Would we stay again ?, Well we liked the good points but they need to address the bad first
