Parador de MAZAGÓN

We stayed here for a week with nothing planned but to relax. Located on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic, Parador de Mazagon is only about 200 steps away from the ocean. The beach is expansive in both directions, with plenty of room for privacy, even on the busy Saturday. The restaurant offers fine dining that you need to make reservations for the day before, but the bar lounge also has food available and no reservation is needed. Choices for vegan/vegetarians weren’t many in the restaurant, so we opted for the delicious veggie burger and hummus sandwiches in the bar lounge instead. Buffet breakfast at the restaurant was very good, though the choices for vegan/vegetarians could be expanded a bit. Their coffee is excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

This Parador is geared toward one thing and excels at that one things; that being the beach. While not a private beach it does sit in a prime location with easy access to the beach and no other hotels nearby to compete with. Also, its proximity to the city of Huelva and other places in the Huelva province is good and makes it a great launching point for much of Huelva.

Beautiful restful spot. Mediocre food and we had money stolen out of my wife’s bag. This could be an anomaly, but it was disappointing that this happened in a place we thought was safe.

We were surprised to have to pay for parking at this isolated Parador. We can understand a charge in city centres but it’s really ridiculous to charge when you are in the middle of nowhere. Our room was spacious with a large terrace with a view over the pool to the sea. The lovely golden sands are not too far down steps and there was hardly anybody on the beach. This is a lovely spot if you just want to swim and sunbathe. The food in the restaurant was good. We visited El Rocio, sandy Wild West town on dried up river, on the way and enjoyed Rábida Monastery on a wet day.

I do not enjoy writing negative reviews, but we were quite disappointed with our stay. So, to avoid being too personal, just the simple facts . We were not informed that the pools were closed and there was no information prior to arrival about renovation and construction work on the side. Of course, it's good to renovate and improve, but inform your guests! Our room was fine recently renovated and restyled. Dinner was a great disappointment. The lady was very impatient with us. We felt not being treated very well. We just wanted some time to overlook the menu and then decide. Not being rushed. Food quality soso. Breakfast is very disappointing. Sliced fruit old and dried out. Yesterday's left over! Hot items to be ordered separately from the cooking station, the chef not to be found. When finally he apparently prepared our eggs, he walked back to the kitchen and pointed out the eggs were ready and waiting. Why not bring them when passing by our table? In total, 8 guests in the restaurant for breakfast . So it was very possible for him to show some effort. Evening/night time, horrible industry smell outside on balcony from nearby gas and oil station next to harbour area. To end and conclude. We felt very disappointed and upset. Beach beautiful, though.
