The Valley House

This hostel is ideally situated close to the entry of Achill Island as well as the Golden Strand. We were in a ten-person dorm, but everything went smoothly. We saw only two lockers for ten but there were two bathrooms (shower and toilets) in the room. This hostel also has an in-house pub and serves a very nice continental breakfast. The only hiccup would be the state of the kitchen that wasn't the cleanest, but that is generally what is to expect at hostels where the kitchen is common.

This house/hostel is absolutely disgusting, do NOT stay here. Filthy dirty & absolutely stink. It seriously needs to be closed down. I would not stay here again even if it was free - reviews are all completely misleading! Valerie & staff lovely.

I would like to thank the chef and waitress and all involved in the lovely dining experience that we had in THE VALLEY HOUSE PUB RESTAURANT/ HOSTEL. The food was amazing and the company who shared the experience with us was also delighted. I would recommend anyone who's in achile visiting or driving through to visiting this place . Booking is required at times but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and atmosphere. Definitely a place to go during summer months. Thank you

We had an excellent dinner at Valley House. Afterward we sat in the sitting room to listen to the Irish music being played in the pub. The manager engaged us in conversation about places to hike on the island that were within our capabilities.

We stayed for 5 days in the valley hostel and we had a ball! The bar was great craic, lovely food and the staff are so helpful and friendly! The beds are very comfortable and there’s charging ports for each bed so no fighting over sockets! Bathrooms are pretty modern and a good shower too! ( also provided with towels) I’d highly recommend and I will be returning!

Had a most comfortable and happy stay at the Valley House. The occasion - my daughter's 40th. We stayed in the main house, a gem of Victorian times which wears its great age with grace. We were warmly greeted by our host who wasn't a bit perturbed that we wanted to hit the bar for a breather after a long journey from Dublin before we went to our rooms. The bar in the Valley House is special. A turf fire and very friendly barman helped us down from the 5 hours drive. (We stopped for lunch. Our rooms were fine, adequate for our needs. The Valley House is special. It's not the first time I have been there but the first time I have stayed. The house, being gently ushered into the 21st century, by Pat and Alice, is a small treasure. It has some very fine features,.large reception rooms, huge fireplaces and some original flooring. It's like no other 'hostel' I have ever known. We had a ball. I think it's safe to say we all had a ball. Great place for a party. Warm and welcoming hosts, lovely bar staff, great music sessions, and yes .. there's a fairy trail in the ground. We didn't venture this time. Next time
