4/5 for the rooms. Linen was good quality, bed comfy and while the bathroom was quite tired looking and lime-scaled, the water pressure in the shower was excellent. Food was another matter, more like 1/5. Badly cooked scallops (think boiled in a frying pan) and the fish and chips was monstrously over cooked. Steaks were poor cuts of meat and sinewy. Bar was fine. Breakfast was fine and the lady who served us was more friendly than evening staff. Visited a year ago and it was much better. Will look elsewhere for next year's trip.

À prominent whitewashed old building deep in the heart of mid-Wales. This is huntin' and fishin' country and this fine old inn lies at the centre of these sports - but they don't push it if that's not your cup of tea. This 600-year-old pile is a maze of beautifully restored rooms, decked with Christmas festivity when we visited last weekend. You can always tell a good place by the charm and intelligence of the staff - and on that score Brigands was outstanding. Nice pint of Butty Bach, classy but not especially cheap wines. We enjoyed the beautifully cooked food on the fairly conventional menu which was remarkably good value with very generous portions especially vegetables. Our room was cosy and impeccably furnished with a particularly comfortable bed. The room was perhaps a little, er, cosier than ideal but in a 600 year old building you have to make allowances. Overall the magnificent decor, sheer warmth and professionalism of everyone and superb food, drink and accommodation we thought Brigands was a real find and strongly recommend it.

I went with 4 friends & my wife. I know I was a bit fussy but I didn't like the selection of vegetables so I asked for some mashed potatoes & was totally disgusted that they charged me £3.00 extra for the potatoes. I certainly won't be going back. How can you have the nerve to charge that when the total bill for 7 of us was about £150.00. Very greedy. I have been here on a couple of occasions & have been pleased with the food & the service, but this was a let down & won't be visiting again.

We had two nights at The Brigands Inn and had a truly lovely time. The hotel is well situated for walks, birdwatching and spotting low flying military aircraft (yes really!!!). There are lots of attractions within a short drive and the hotel is just inside the National Park. Also, Machynlleth is only a few miles away. The Inn has real age but has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard. Rooms were full of character and comfortable. The food was outstanding and plentiful. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. My only slight niggle was the WiFi which proved to be a little tricky to connect to but hey, not a huge concern. We will definitely return for another stay. Thank you Brigands! 😊👍🏻

I got to the Brigands later than planned, thankfully I'd called ahead to find out what time the kitchen closed, it looked like I was going to miss out on an evening meal. When I got there the head chef was at the bar waiting, she'd stayed on until I got there, she said she wasn't going to let me starve, within minutes she'd rustled me up a great ham, eggs, chips and peas, it was a lovely gesture and really appreciated. On top of that the food and drink prices were reasonable too. It was my first experience using Britstops, and thanks to the Brigand it was a five star experience. Thank you so much.

This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in, we stayed overnight on our way to Anglesey, everything is spotless and the staff are so friendly, our room did not have a walk in shower it was a shower over the bath and being an older couple we were a bit nervous about slipping, we decided to book for the night a week later on our way home from Anglesey, Sue the owner gave us a room with a walk in shower this time and the room is amazing, it’s very large with a sofa and chairs and a king size bed, the bathroom is beautiful with a slipper bath and walk in shower, I recommend room 8, dogs are made very welcome by all the staff and are allowed in the dining room with you, we would like to thank Sue and all her staff for everything, she has a great team.

Lovely getaway for a break and change of scenery. Room was delightful and well equipped. We booked dinner on arrival and although it was very nice, I found the portion size to be small and therefore the main course to be overpriced. The treacle pudding was to die for and I would definitely recommend! Breakfast was amazing. I love fruit for breakfast but hotels often disappoint with the quality. The quality of everything was perfect. The staff throughout were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
